chapter forty-four.
the lost boy

Morning in New York. Time to wake up from bad dreams, roll out of the beds we've made and start making plans for a brighter future.

MORNINGS REMAINED STRANGE for Victoria Humphrey, trying to cope with waking up and not being greeted by the comfort of her siblings or her father. Her normality had become Riven, but his presence lacked since he returned to Yale, to be burdened and gifted the luxury of an education to become a lawyer. When mornings appeared quiet, Victoria painted, she ate, she looked at the latest gossip in the magazines, and. . .well, eventually that got rather boring so she'd wander out of her condo, caressing the bump that she carried with her for the comfort she lacked.

Riven texted. Sometimes he called. Well, he called too much for someone who had just returned to Yale, and was to be back later in the day of the morning he texted. Victoria favoured his comfort, she was soothed by it, but her reassurance was donated. The only thing she knew was that boredom could strike at any moment, and she had to learn to cure it. Cure it by not burdening the Huntington with her whining and her rambles that were to keep him stuck on the phone.

Victoria stepped out of the elevator, greeted by the white walls of the van der Woodsen's minimalist penthouse, she knew that Eric and Jenny hadn't returned to school just yet. They had a few more moments of the summer left to enjoy before Jenny became the queen of Constance, and Eric was to spend his days trying to follow the social hierarchy.

The porcelain girl greeted, rather bubbly, ignited by the excitement of no longer being alone. "Hello!" She walked rather well in the wedges she wore, a gift that Lily gave her as a celebration for her achievement of graduating high school.

Rufus' focus upon a tanned boy shifted, his eyes brightening as he abandoned his guitar the moment he saw his pregnant daughter. "Oh! Tori!" He hurried over towards her, always loving when she appeared unexpectedly to the penthouse. As her father, having lacked her presence all throughout the summer, he had loved every time she had chosen to visit, he wanted her to even move in, but he knew she found comfort within Riven's condo.

"Hi, Dad." Victoria greeted before her eyes shifted towards the strange man sitting on the white couch, a guitar secured tightly in his grip as he stared at the brunette only bewildered. "Uh. . ." The teen appeared awkward, a gentle smile forming upon her glossed lips as she questioning the lingering gaze of the man. "W-Who is this?"

Rufus turned back towards his student, being the one to teach him how to play guitar. "Scott Adler." His darkened hair simply matched Rufus' thick strands, his brows were full and sharp, his eyes containing this warmth that seemed to be riddled in amazement. He hadn't met Victoria just yet, he met Dan, Rufus, Jenny and Eric, but his eyes never came to sit upon the girl he heard a lot about, until that moment. "Vanessa's new boyfriend."
