chapter twenty-eight.
it's a wonderful lie

Winter in New York. A Gossip Girl checklist to surviving the cold: Cashmere stole for ice-skating at Wollman Rink. Jacques Torres hot chocolate for window-shopping the holiday displays and the perfect date to the Senior Snowflake Charity Ball.

WHEN YOU LIVED in a world where there was a website fit for dishing out all of the gossip that loomed over a high school in New York, the corridors were always going to be filled with harsh whispers and lingering eyes upon who was the topic of discussion on Gossip Girl. Or. . .if there was news unable to have been comprehended they would continuously talk about it, to try and get to the point of understanding the reason as to why it evolved one person. Victoria Humphrey. Why her? Why did Nate choose her? Why was she his girlfriend? Why was she his date to the upcoming Snowflake Charity Ball? How did she manage to get the Upper East Side's most perfect boy?

It became rather simple for Victoria to ignore those stares and whispers as she'd put her earphones in whenever she found herself alone. The music drowned out the jealousy of the girls surrounding her in the girls' corridor and neglected her from hearing the rude remarks made, that did spark from jealousy. There was months to go until she graduated which was why she didn't let it bother her. These were people she was going separate ways from.

Victoria was consumed by the powerful voice of Alicia Keys as she rummaged through her locker, grabbing books she needed to take home with her to do homework as the school day had come to an end. While stuffing her bag she didn't come to notice the approach of Nate, his smile beamed down the corridor as soon as his eyes set on the Humphrey. He, too, came to ignore the whispers from the girls who only wished it was them who was with him.

Throughout the day he and Victoria hardly had been apart, and when they were he only rushed to see her right after their distance. The porcelain girl stood in her leathered knee high boots that she balanced on the heel of as she zipped her bag and slammed her locker shut, still unknowing to the approach of the lightly tanned boy hurrying towards her.

When his hands reached her waist, gripping tightly, she screeched out in shock before realisation set in that it was only Nate. Not some random boy along the corridor grabbing her. Relief settled in and she pulled out her earphones, only fuelled with this happiness when her eyes fell upon her boyfriend.

"You scared me." Victoria whined as she calmed in the boy's arms and her back pressed against his front, he secured a hold on her with a peck on top of her head.
