chapter thirty-four.
the age of dissonance✧
On the Upper East Side, all the world's a stage and the men and women merely players. But once a year, Constance-St Jude's students shed their usual roles and take on new ones for the senior class play. This year's pick: The Age of Innocence. Before Gossip Girl, there was Edith Wharton and how little has changed. The same society snobs still reigned only in corsets and horse-drawn carriages.

A PALED HAND rested on Victoria's hip and one still sitting in the sling she hadn't found comfort without, she was fidgeting in a tightly fitted dress meant to represent the attire of the 19th century. Also, handcrafted by her little sister, Jenny Humphrey. Victoria found herself to be playing Louisa van der Luyden from The Age of Innocence, a film and a book, one she hadn't touched and the other she had consumed with pride. Her portrayal was to not be of a main character, and she was grateful to blend into the back of the stars of the show.
Victoria Humphrey once tried reading The Age of Innocence, but she found herself throwing the book to the side as the words continuously jumbled and didn't make sense to her. Though, with appreciation of the movie she was more than happy to be part of the play that the school was producing for the Seniors. It was to be their last commitment to the school before their graduation, and Victoria was grateful to be part of it.
Nate walked by her side, behind the front stage, finding themselves roaming around before each others scenes. It was their desire to spend as much time together. Well, Nate couldn't exactly neglect himself from thinking about her. With any opportunity he got with placing his hands on her skin he had done so. Though, his concern was more so on how she fidgeted in the corset she wore, part of the dress' design to fit in with the era of time the play was based.
"Is it that bad?" Nate pressed his concern, but he was yet humoured with the fidgeting of the young Humphrey.
Victoria groaned. "It's terrible!" She exclaimed with a painful look. "This dress is uncomfortable."
Vanessa had caught Victoria's fidgeting on camera, she was roaming around the theatre, capturing the creativeness of the entire atmosphere. Victoria didn't understand the interest Vanessa had with the high school play, and nor did Nate. His brows were arched as his gaze followed the light-skinned brunette before she disappeared round a corner. "Why exactly is Vanessa doing a documentary on this?"
The Humphrey's shoulders lifted into a shrug, she couldn't think of what had sparked the Abrams' interest. "No clue. Oh, wait." She grabbed onto Nate's hand, their fingers intertwining as they continued their stroll behind the stage. "V did mention something about a hottest-upcoming-director, and. . .The Age of Innocence is one of her favorites."
