chapter twenty-seven. the magnificent archibalds
✧
For the rest of the country Thanksgiving is when families come together to give thanks. But on the Upper East Side the holiday thankfully returns to its roots: lying, manipulation and betrayal. And from what we hear, just like the Indians someone else is being pushed out of their home.

VICTORIA JEANETTE HUMPHREY wondered what Thanksgiving was to be like this year round, especially with the memory of last years Thanksgiving lingering on her mind. What she recalled was the outing of Lily and Rufus' past relationship, her mother's sulk and her past feud with the now Bass. Victoria also remembered Blair Waldorf's arrival. It was such an odd Thanksgiving, she didn't know what to expect with the one a few days away. Everyone had began their preparation for the day, decorations being dug from the back of the cupboard, groceries lists being scribbled, and a plan of who was invited to sit at the table.
Already, the Humphrey Thanksgiving was due to be different as Jenny's absence continued. The girl had been camping out at Agnes' ( her model friend ) apartment, avoiding being in the same presence as her father, but also unable to look her older sister in the eye. Oh, and if she did, she'd meet the fury that swirled around Victoria's hazel orbs.
They hadn't spoken. No one mentioned Jenny around Victoria. Victoria hardly spoke of her little sister. It was for the better to not think about the night where the young blonde thought she had the right to jump into Nate and smoother him with a kiss. Victoria blamed her little sister for the reason as to why Nate felt it was better to rejoin his mother in the Hamptons for a few days before he had come back a week in approach to Thanksgiving.
Victoria spent time on the phone with Nate, hardly speaking about Jenny, and only asking him how his time was away from the city. He had a detox, but he exclaimed his happiness for arriving back to the Big Apple because it meant he could physically spend time with the Humphrey he liked.
As Thanksgiving was in approach it meant that they were hardly going to see each other as much as they would've hoped. Five days wasn't enough to catch up with the distance that occurred after the ordeal with Jenny, but it was what they both were accepting as they sat within the courtyard.
Victoria was nestled into the boy's side, her hands fiddled with her rings clung to her fingers as she listened to the boy ramble. "I-I would invite you over to the apartment that the Roths borrowed us but my mom is still adjusting." Nate explained causing for the brunette's slight frown as she reached to stroke the Archibald's hair. "I don't think she's used to living in a place so small."
"Well, it was nice what the. . .Roths did." Victoria comforted. "If you guys don't want to spend Thanksgiving there I am sure my dad can make more food and more space at the table."
