Meeting Jerry the night he comes in to the hospital with burns to his leg and facial injuries. Keeping in touch with him and after his (ex) wife leaves for Portland getting closer, at first being concerned that Joe would think that you were trying to replace his mom. Over time Joe loves you and soon becoming the new Mrs Brinson and becoming a family. Letting Jeanette now that you are in no way trying to take over however you do see Joe as your son. Jeanette can't bring herself to hate you after all you'd only fallen in love with a man.
