I couldn't believe it. Elliot had just confirmed my suspicions, and my heart was pounding like crazy. I mean, who would have thought that this good-looking guy with a tall, lean, athletic body was into men as well? I had to admit that I found him attractive too, but I had never considered the possibility of anything more than friendship between us.
"Positive," he answered, looking straight into my eyes. I felt a surge of curiosity and asked him if anyone else knew about it. He took his time to answer and said that only his parents and I were aware of his identity. I appreciated his honesty and felt honored that he trusted me with such a personal aspect of his life. I knew how difficult it could be to keep a secret like this, and I felt a sense of solidarity with him.
"I'm happy that you're honest with me, Elliot. I know we haven't known each other for long, but I'm proud of who you are," I told him, feeling a sense of warmth spreading throughout my body. I paused for a moment and hugged him tightly. He smelled so good, and I couldn't help but smile genuinely.
"Wait, are you telling me this because I'm gay?" I asked, still hugging him. I gulped and looked into his eyes, waiting for his response. He leaned closer to my face and said, "Part of it, yeah. But the real reason is that I like you." My heart skipped a beat, and I felt my cheeks flushing. He tightened our embrace, and I knew that he could hear my heart pounding like crazy.
I was at a loss for words. I mean, this fine man right here liked me? Seriously? I couldn't believe it. He continued speaking, saying that he had been thinking about me since we first met in class. He had been curious about me and was impressed when he saw me play volleyball. He thought I was a badass and his admiration for me had only grown since then. He looked at me intently, and I still didn't know how to respond.
"Look, you don't have to like me back now, it's okay. Just let me win you over, okay?" he said seriously. I could tell that he meant every word, and I felt a surge of emotion in my chest.
I remembered the notes that I had found in my locker and wondered if Elliot was the one who had written them. But I pushed the thought aside, realizing that I was being delusional.
"I...I don't know what to say. You're the first person who has ever told me that they like me," I confessed, feeling overwhelmed. "Thank you for making me feel special," I added, looking him in the eye. It was true; Elliot was the first person who had ever expressed his feelings for me, and I felt honored.
I leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek, showing my appreciation. He smiled and hugged me again, and we decided to take a walk along the coast of Long Beach to enjoy the breeze and talk about our match. It was past 10, but we were both enjoying the moment.
Suddenly, my phone rang, and I saw that it was TJ calling. I excused myself to take the call, wondering what he wanted.
"Hey, what're you doing?" he asked, his voice husky like he had just woken up.
"Walking by the beach, why?" I replied, wondering where this was going.
"You're still at the beach?" he chuckled. "Wait, are you with someone?" he asked out of nowhere.
I felt a surge of confusion and replied, "I'm with Elliot. We're just hanging out." I didn't want to overthink this as a date
As Elliot held my shoulders from the back, I couldn't help but smile. "Who called, was it your mom?" he asked curiously. I shook my head and replied, "No, it was TJ, he's just checking out." His expression changed from happy to serious, and I could tell he was thinking about something.
As the night grew late, we both decided it was time to head back home. We drove through the familiar streets of my neighborhood until we parked in front of my house. After getting off his bike, I turned to Elliot and said, "Elli, I want to thank you for tonight, I had so much fun."
His charming smile made my heart flutter as he replied, "Yeah, you're welcome. I had fun as well. Let's do it again sometime." I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to kiss him till morning if I was a girl.
"I'm serious about what I said earlier, I'm gonna make you like me back," he stated, waving me goodbye. I couldn't deny that I was flattered by his honesty and overwhelmed by his cheesiness. "Oh, I know you're serious. I'm just not sure how long I can resist you," I muttered to myself as he rode away.
As I walked inside my house, I couldn't help but feel a bit nervous about facing my parents. My mom had been annoying me to tell her what happened earlier, and my dad was bugging me to bring my handsome boyfriend from the team over so he could meet him. I decided to ignore them and headed straight to my room to take a hot bath and clear my head.
As I lay in bed, I couldn't help but smile as I drifted off to sleep. Today had been an incredible day, and I couldn't wait to see what the future held for Elliot and me.
