"Mommy! It's time to wake up!" Mickey screamed. Marcy's eyes popped open, scaring the toddler to death. She screamed again and started crying.
"Don't cry, Mac. Why are you crying?" Marcy rubbed her back.
Mickey buried her face in her mom's chest.
"You stop that crying. You're okay. Just take deep breaths."
Mal and Mally just sat there, watching as Mickey pulled herself together.
Marcy just rubbed her back gently.
Mickey finally stopped crying. "I okay now."
"That's good. Why'd you start crying?"
"You scared me."
"What?" Marcy couldn't hear her.
Mickey lifted her head. "You scared me."
"How? I was asleep. Was I talking in my sleep?" Marcy felt dread.
"No. Your eyes opened really scary."
Marcy didn't know what that meant. "Okay..."
"When you wake up, your eyes pop open and no matter where I'm looking, your eyes follow me." Mal explained. "It's terrifying."
Marcy felt bad. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault. You're still trying to wake up. But it's scary as all outdoors."
Marcy kissed Mickey's cheek. "I wuv you! Don't be scared of Mommy!"
Mickey giggled. "Mommy not scary!"
"Good! Now why'd you wake me up?!"
"Time for preschool!"
"Honey, you have four hours until we need to get up. Go back to sleep."
Mickey climbed under the covers and cuddled up to her.
"I meant your own bed..."
Mickey stretched out.
She huffed. "You might as well get under here, too Mally."
Mally scrambled underneath the covers.
"Everybody, go to sleep."
Mal smirked.
She pointed at him.
He blew her a kiss before closing his eyes.
She rolled hers before closing them then they popped back open when Riley cried.
W.W.W.
Jude came into the kitchen. "Morning, brahs!"
"Good morning, Jude!" The Chang family greeted him.
He sat down at the table.
"How's your schedule look?" Marcy set a plate in front of him.
"Look's good, dude."
"Dude!" She nodded with a smile.
"Dude!" He smiled back.
"Daddy?" Mickey patted her father's hand.
Mal hummed.
"Why do Mommy and Uncle Jude say "dude" so much?"
"It's how they talk. They say a lot with that one little word."
"I wanna say it."
"Say it." He smiled at her.
"Dude." She grinned.
