Mickey gave her banana to her brother and took his orange. Both began peeling.

A little girl came up to their table and sat down. "Hi!"

Mickey blinked. "Hi."

"Hi." Mally stuck his tongue out as he stripped the banana of its flesh neatly.

The little girl stuck her hand out. "I'm Isobel."

"My mommy says not to touch people cuz they're dirty. Are you dirty?" Mickey looked at her suspiciously.

"I'm clean." Isobel swore. "What's your names?"

"My name is Mickey. This is my brother, Mally."

"Are you twins?"

"Yeah."

"That's so cool! I wish I had a twin even a boy!"

Mickey accidentally chuckled.

Isobel smiled at getting that. "My nanny made my lunch."

"We made ours." Mickey gave Mally his orange back and took back her banana.

"You make your own lunch?" Isobel was suitably impressed.

"Yup! Mommy puts it together but we pick out everything."

"That's so cool! I don't know what I have." Isobel opened her lunch bag.

Mickey set her banana on a napkin after taking a bite out of it. "We know everything."

Isobel took sushi out of her bag. "I don't like this stuff. Mommy makes me eat it."

"That's sushi. Daddy's Japanese."

Isobel's eyes widened. "Really?!"

"Uh huh! We can speak Japanese and Italian and English."

"Wow! Why do you speak Italian?"

"Mommy's Italian."

"But you're darker than that kid." Isobel pointed to a little Korean boy.

"Because Mommy's mixed. She's Italian and German and Native and black."

"Wow! What's Native mean?"

"Native American. It means they were here first."

"Wow." Isobel opened her container. "Want to trade?"

"Not really. I like my sandwich."

"Maybe you can give me half and I can give you half of my shushi?"

"Sushi." Mickey pronounced correctly. "Okay."

Isobel brightened. "Yay! Are you from here?"

Mickey gave Isobel half her sandwich. "Here?"

"If your daddy is Japanese, was he borned here?"

"Oh. No. He was born in Japan. Mommy was born in Ireland."

"Ireland? Where's that?"

"It's by England."

"Where's that?"

"Across the ocean."

"What's an ocean?"

"A lot of water."

Isobel nodded. "How do you know all that?"

"Mommy and Daddy taught us."

"I don't see my mommy a lot. I don't really remember what my daddy looks like."

"Did he die?"

Isobel blinked in absolute shock. "No! He's just on business a lot!"

"Our grandparents go on business trips a lot."
