The Way We Know

Marcy pressed the key on the keyboard to answer the Skype call from Laura. She and her household waved to the recent college graduate. "Happy birthday! What are you doing?"

Laura waved back. "Thank you! I'm eating kale chips and drinking a green smoothie."

"Yuck! Kale chips?!" Karou hated the bitter green.

"It's supposed to help the baby." Laura looked off camera for a second before looking back. "Let me connect the others. Hold on."

"Do you want kale chips?" Mal asked his wife.

Marcy, who also hated kale, wrinkled her nose. "I'd rather have these kids come out fat."

He chuckled.

Laura came back with their parents on the conference call. "Hi!"

"Hey!" The Chang residence waved.

"Let me call the Trio." Laura went off video again.

"How are you feeling, honey?" Judy wanted to know.

"Nauseous." Marcy answered honestly.

"Are you drinking Ginger ale?" Jeanette wanted to make sure.

Marcy lifted the two liter bottle.

Michael snickered. "How bad can it be?"

"I throw up every thirty minutes like clockwork."

He frowned. "So soon?"

"So much?!" Judy was appalled.

"I'm getting low on toothpaste." Marcy joked.

Marcus took her at face value. "I'll bring you some from the office."

"Thank you, Daddy."

Laura returned. "Say hi, guys."

Mike, Mercedes and Quinn waved happily. "Hi!"

Their family waved back, just as happy. "Hi!"

"We want to know!" Paris growled. "Are you really pregnant?!"

Mercedes and Quinn nodded, excited. "Yes! Four weeks!"

"You know you shouldn't tell anyone else until you're twelve weeks." Marcy had broken that rule so many times just on Monday that she felt like a hypocrite.

"That's what my doctor said, too." Laura nodded.

"I can't tell anybody?" Maddie pouted.

"Nope." Marc walked into view behind Laura. "Hey, guys."

"Marc!" Everyone yelled.

"You've got to know the best part!" Quinn yelped. "Mercy's having twins!"

"What?!"

Mercedes beamed. "Yeah!"

Michael fist-pumped.
