Lyric's POV
Vision was dead.
Dad was dead.
Wanda was dead.
Sam was dead.
Half the world was dead.
Peter was dead.
"Lyric, you gotta get up," Nat said softly, attempting to pick me up.
"It all came true," I mumbled.
"What are you talking about?"
"I saw this happen! I've been seeing it happen for the past month...so I know what happens next." I stood up from the ground and closed my eyes.
"Lyric, what are you doing?" Papa asked. I looked at him, biting my lip out of nervousness.
"I love you," I said.
"Where are you going?" I didn't answer, instead, I turned to the ship sitting in the grass. Before anyone could stop me I entered the ship and ran to the controls, letting my eyes turn green. My powers would guide me, I could stop this. I could hear Nat and Papa calling for me but fought the urge to return to them.
If this worked I'd never return to them again.
I felt the ship start to rise and I automatically hit buttons. My powers were so powerful I blacked out from the force.
When I woke up, the scenery had changed to a field and Thanos was sitting in a cottage facing me. I exited the ship with shaky legs as I caught the alien's attention.
"How is it? How is the world I've now created for you all? Have you come to thank me, child?" He asked walking towards me. I shook my head, the tears already starting to fill my eyes, but not out of sadness.
Pure rage.
"I-I've dreamt of you for a month now. Every night for a month. That doesn't mean I was ever prepared for this moment." I grunted. The purple alien looked at me in wonder.
"There's something different about you...a certain power." He pondered.
"I was given my powers in a lab," I stated, flashing my eyes green. The Thanos looked closer and his eyes widened.
"You...you have the power of two infinity gems. Mind and space." He gasped. I smirked and took a step closer.
"Does that make you nervous?"
"Listen, child, I don't know what you think your challenging of me will achieve, but I can assure you it will only result in death."
"Yeah, your death!" I raised a hand and pushed him back with a blast of energy. Thanos flew back on the ground and I stalked toward him. "As I said, I've seen this play out, Thanos. So far everything I've seen has been right, so I will win. This is a fact."
"Stop this now! Stop and just enjoy the gift I've given you!" He yelled. I pushed both hands toward him, using all my energy.
This is it. This is my dream.
I felt the strain of the world on my back as I held out my hands against him. It hurt more than any dream could depict.
"Bring them back!" I growled, my whole body shaking and emitting a green glow. He groaned laughed a dry sound of pity.
"This will kill you, young child of science, and nothing will come of your sacrifice." A shiver ran down my spine. The moment of truth...
"If you're dead, revenge will come from my sacrifice. Besides...I've lost everything." I seethed. I pushed harder, blood now emitting from the mad titan's mouth. My own blood dripped from my nose.
"Then we will both die here! Is this really what you want? A child as young as yourself giving up your life for a cause you do not fully understand?" He coughed.
"I don't understand much, but I know that you have my boyfriend, dad, family, and many others. The world needs them more than myself." I stated. Thanos saw the unwavering determination in my eyes and looked worried.
"No...NO!" He hissed. I pushed harder, a cry escaping my throat. Dammit, I could feel every molecule in my body as if I was being ripped apart.
"They're dead and so are you!" Thanos seethed.
"No, they're not! Their souls are trapped in the soul stone, and upon your death, they will be freed and everything will be okay again!" I cried. I could feel myself getting weaker, but I kept on pushing.
The world needs them more than it needs me...
"This is the end for you, Thanos!" I roared and then there was nothing.
It felt as if I was underwater, a pressure on my ears, nothing but darkness in front of me. It was...calming.
I took a deep breath and rose up from the soft grass on the ground. Everything had a bluish-grey haze around it.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" I asked. My hair was pulled back into a low bun and I wore a white dress. A warmth covered me and I smiled, closing my eyes to bask in it.
This is what death was like?
"Lyric, it's not your time." I looked up and saw my mother smiling at me.
"Mummy..." I whimpered. She touched my cheek with her soft hand and kissed it.
"We'll be waiting for you, so you can go back. They need you down there." Mum encouraged. My father appeared next to her and a single tear escaped my eye.
"We're so proud of you." He smiled. I hugged both of them and sighed.
"I love you both...always and forever," I vowed.
Then I felt a crushing weight on my chest.
A/N: Just so everyone is aware, this was written pre Endgame so this doesn't follow the plot of Endgame in the whole 5-year skip or the *ahem* Endgame deaths. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter. I'm not sure if y'all are vibing with this book or not since I don't receive much feedback so let me know sometime. Love ya!
