*The Day of The Wedding*

Lyric's POV

"Okay try not to move so much." Wanda fretted, putting the mascara on my eyelashes. Pepper was lacing up my dress; Natasha, putting on my shoes.

"Oh my gosh, I'm getting married in like 30 minutes," I muttered in absolute disbelief.

"Alright now, let me get the hairspray and I'll get your hair to stay." Pepper stated.

"My dads are here right?" I asked.

"Yup, they're directing the guests to their seats," Nat replied.

"And how's the weather?"

"Perfect day for a wedding." Pepper smiled.

"Lyric, the flowers are gorgeous! The purple, whites, and yellows make the garden look beautiful." Wanda praised.

"Well, the flowers match your dresses." I laughed. They all wore majestic purple bridesmaid dresses and white heels. A knock came from the door, and Papa peaked his head in.

"Hey, darling." He smiled. The smile that graced my lips was inevitable. Papa came in followed by Dad, both of them in white button-down shirts and black slacks. The sleeves of their shirts were rolled up, exposing their forearms.

"All the guests are here and everyone else is ready if you are," Dad said. I looked in the mirror and shifted my hair a bit to the side.

I was getting married.

But not to Peter.

Peter, the boy I was sure I would spend my life with, I thought we would have everything together. But he couldn't forgive me, couldn't trust me, couldn't love me in a way that wouldn't hurt us. I'll forever love him, but at a distance, where we can't hurt each other.

Change sucks but this is one change I don't necessarily mind.

"Yes, I'm ready." I smiled.

Peter's POV

I sat next to Ned who was next to Michelle. The two of them were talking but I could only focus on the altar. She would be up there soon. And next to her would be Jack.

Not me.

The sound of the wedding march began to play and everyone stood up. It was a small crowd but a crowd nonetheless. Jack came out first, followed by the officiant. Then a tall man with shoulder-length hair came out with Wanda, a shorter man with Nat, and an older man with Pepper. Morgan came out flinging flowers carelessly with Pepper's little cousin who was carrying the rings. Lastly, Lyric came out with Steve and Bucky on either side. She practically glided down the aisle, looking like an angel. I felt a tear fall from my eye and Ned noticed.

"Hey, it's alright man. Everything will be alright." He promised, but it felt like a lie. How could I move on when I'm still in love with her? That should be me up there across from her. She should be smiling at me with that smile she's giving Jack. I loved her first and I love her more. Steve and Bucky left her at the altar with Jack and the officiant began to speak, welcoming us all to their union.

The wedding dragged on with the story of how Jack and Lyric fell in love and words about love and honor and marriage. If it wasn't rude, I would just walk out now. Then again, could it be considered rude if I felt sick because my stomach wouldn't stop churning? She was doing it, moving on from me. I wanted nothing more than to push Jack out of the way and swing off with Lyric tucked safely in my arms where I would never let go again. I sighed and slumped in my seat slightly. Maybe this would be over soon and I could go home and cry while throwing up. This couldn't be real.

"And now for the vows." The officiant said. Pepper's cousin walked up, handing the rings to Lyric and Jack.

"Jack, you may begin." The officiant smiled.

"Lyric, you are such an amazing woman. Everything about you enchants me and makes me want to know more about you. I can't possibly sum up how much I love you with words so forgive me if this vow is short. I love you to the moon and back infinite times and I vow to keep loving you no matter what, till death do us part." Jack smiled.

I wish I could say I stood up, with eyes full of emotion and refuted the whole union. I wish I could say I took Lyric in my arms and kissed all the air from her lungs until she felt weak in the knees. I wish I could say Lyric looked over at me and suddenly she realized that she was making a huge mistake, leaving Jack up at the altar and instead running to me. I wish I could say I fought Jack and won.

Because what happened next was way worse than any of what I just hoped for.

Jack went to place the ring on Lyric's finger when a single shot rang out. There were multiple screams, but I only saw Lyric and Jack fall.

"No!" I screeched. People were running for cover while Tony was activating his suit.

"Peter, wait!" Ned called to me, but I was already pushing my way to the altar. Countless people bumped into me but I kept pushing through. When I got there I saw Lyric with her hands on Jack's chest, trying to stop the bleeding. She was crying hysterically and parts of her once white dress were stained red.

"Peter! Please, help me!" She cried, her eyes green as black mascara streaked down her cheeks. I sat next to her and tore a sleeve from Jack's suit, trying to use it to stop the bleeding.

"Did anyone call 911?" She asked. But I could only shake my head. Her movements were frantic and sloppy. I placed my somewhat calmer hand over hers and looked into her eyes.

"He's gonna be okay. Everything's gonna be okay."

I lied.
