Lyric's POV
I looked at myself in the car mirror, running my hands down the black dress with lace on the arms. My eyes still appeared sickly red so I grabbed a pair of large black glasses. My hair was situated in a low bun that Wanda did for me. I took a deep breath before walking out of the small car and back to the grave. Everyone was seated as the priest began to talk. I took a seat up front next to Pepper.
"Jack was a young man with his whole life ahead of him, though it was cut short. He was just beginning to open a new chapter in his life when suddenly the novel ended. Now, Lyric will come up and say a few words." The priest said. Pepper rubbed my back as I got up and walked to the podium. I looked over at Jack's sleek black casket and sniffled.
"It was our wedding day and um, I never even got to say my vows to him, so I figured I'd read them to him now," I explained. I pulled out my crinkled vows from my clutch and began to read.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage, Lao Tzu. I had only experienced this type of love once before you, but having you love me is something special," I looked back at the casket as the tears sprang to my eyes,
"Jack...you're like a breath of fresh air to me. Loving you is easy and so rewarding. You fixed me when I swore I would be broken forever, like the time, I ran to your apartment at 3 AM because I felt so alone and you stayed up with me until I fell asleep," I sniffled. I wiped my eyes and took in a shaky breath,
"I love you and no matter what happens, there will always be a part of me, no matter how big or small, that will love you." I finished, putting the vow back in my clutch. I choked back a sob with the back of my hand before continuing with my words.
"Jack, I will always love you but I know you'd want me to move on and be happy again, so with time I will be, but right now it hurts like hell. I'm sorry you're gone, I'm sorry we didn't get forever as we planned, and I'm so sorry that you loved me, though I'll never be sorry for loving you." I looked back to his casket for the third time, hoping he would come out and tell me this is all just a joke.
"Come on, wake up...please," I mumbled brokenly. A hand was placed on my shoulder and I saw Peter with a sad smile on his face. He didn't have to say anything. I gave a weak smile back before placing down a bouquet of purple, yellow, and white flowers, our wedding colors, on his casket.
"I love you," I whispered before letting Peter lead me back to my seat. Pepper hugged me, kissing my forehead.
"That was beautiful, Lyric. I know he loved it." She sniffled, her own eyes were red with tears.
"Thank you." I sobbed.
*At the Repass*
I sat on the couch, sipping on my glass of water, watching everyone talk and take from the small finger foods. It didn't feel real at all.
"Lyric?" I turned to see Sam, Dean, and Castiel looking down at me. I stood up, nodding respectfully.
"Hey, how are you guys?" I asked.
"We should be asking you that." Sam frowned. I laughed tiredly and shrugged,
"Believe it or not, bad things happen in my life all the time, I should've expected disaster the very minute Jack smiled at me."
"You meant so much to Jack, so we just wanted to say thank you." Castiel smiled.
"He died happy thanks to you, and that's the best gift we could ever receive," Dean added.
"I...I wish he didn't have to die because of me," I mumbled.
"Are you kidding me? That kid was as loyal as a dog." Dean chuckled. I looked at him in confusion.
"Jack would have easily died for anyone he cared about. He almost did for our mom." Sam explained.
"They're right. Don't beat yourself up over this Lyric. It's just who Jack was. This was almost inevitable." Castiel agreed. I looked at the three men in front of me and smiled as a tear fell from my eye.
"Thank you so much. You don't know how much I needed to hear that." I sniffled. I was enveloped in a hug by the three men and let out a sigh of relief.
"It's gonna get better Lyric, promise," Sam said.
*Later*
I was dressed for bed in maroon shorts and a white t-shirt when I got thirsty. It was a few minutes after midnight and most everyone was in their rooms. I walked to the kitchen and was surprised to see Peter. He wore a button-up white shirt with the first few buttons undone and black slacks.
"Why are you still here?" I asked in confusion. Peter looked at me running his fingers through his hair.
"Everyone kinda drifted after the wake and no one cleaned up. Figured I would." He said. I nodded slowly.
"How are you holding up?" Peter asked. I shrugged and took a seat on the kitchen counter.
"It doesn't feel real. I buried my husband today. Peter, all I had to do was say my vows and we were married. I never even got to do that." I groaned. Peter climbed up on the counter next to me and looked out the tower windows.
"It's cliche and stupid, but I believe Jack is still with you. He'll never really be gone, Lyric." He said.
"That how you feel about your uncle?" I questioned.
"I've got to, it's the only thing I've got." I looked over at Peter and he turned to me.
"You think Jack and my dad are watching over me?" I asked softly.
"They'd be wrong not to. You're doing amazing things everyday Lyric." He smiled. Looking at this Peter made me think back to the night we broke up, the different him.
"Then why'd you leave me?" I sniffed, my lip trembling.
"Lyric, that was honestly not my finest moment." Peter sighed.
"You never even came home for Christmas. You made me feel horrible Peter."
"I'll never be able to apologize enough."
"I hated you for months on end."
"Honestly, I hated myself." I got off the kitchen counter and wiped the tears that threatened to fall.
"When you left, I lost my best friend," I stated before starting to walk away. When I got to the doorway of the kitchen, Peter spoke,
"I'd like to be that again...if you'd let me." I looked back at him and stared for a while.
"Only if you can find it in yourself to trust me again."
