Lyric's POV
I cried on Peter's shoulder harder than I've ever cried before.
"Papa..." I wailed.
"Steve is gonna be fine Lyric. D-don't worry about it." Dad promised, but he wasn't sure. His eyes were red with unshed tears as Papa was carried away to be treated for his wounds.
"This is like Ultron all over again with all these robots." Natasha panted, wiping the blood from a cut above her left eyebrow.
I hadn't seen Ultron's battle but if it was anything like this I could imagine the damage. The Tower had partially collapsed, debris flying in the air. Cars and buildings in the surrounding area were also damaged. We had managed to evacuate many civilians, but some laid at our feet, unmoving.
The entire sight made me nauseous.
"Pete, the kids are safe?" Tony asked, lifting his face plate.
"Sent em to the last place Doom would check." Peter replied.
"Why does he want Iris?" I sobbed. The message was clear when the robots entered, the name IRIS scrawled in messy handwriting on their metal chests.
"Doesn't matter because he's not getting her. We're going after Doom now. Go and get to the kids." Tony ordered before heading to a quinjet. Peter and I went to one of the smaller ones.
Iris's POV
I sat at the small table, eating the Nutella sandwich in silence. The whole table was silent, until Junior spoke up.
"Why did you let us stay here with you? We're Lyric's children that she had with a different man. That doesn't make you feel uncomfortable?" He blurted out. So eloquent, brother...
"Jack wouldn't have cared who you father was. You're Lyric's children so that means you have her in you. He loved her so much." Castiel explained.
"He loved her like our daddy does?" Natalia asked skeptically.
"Exactly like that." Sam smiled. After that Castiel, Sam, and Dean started trying to get to know us better by asking questions about our lives and we asked questions back. The banter was interrupted by Junior's phone ringing. His face lit up at the screen.
"Aisha, hey!...hey no, calm down we are all fine...I can't come see you right now A, we're not exactly where anyone can find us...the snap map?!" Junior spoke. There were 5 hard knocks at the door and Junior ran to open it. As soon as he did, Aisha jumped on him covering his lips with hers. I smiled at the two but couldn't help feeling bummed out that no one was here checking up on me.
"Iris?" An Irish voice called. My eyes widened as I saw Andrew in the doorframe.
"Andrew, hey." I said awkwardly. He walked down the stairs and I met him at the bottom.
"I called Aisha first to ask if you were okay. Then she said she was going to find you so I tagged along." He explained.
"I thought you wouldn't want to see me after...after what happened at your party."
"Riley was being horrible to you. I'm not entirely sure what you did to her, but I probably would have done the same."
"So...you don't hate me?"
"Me? Hate you? Iris, I could never." I smiled and pushed some hair behind my ear, self-consciously.
"So, you're a next gen avenger?" He asked.
"Uh, something like that I guess."
"I always had a thing for strong women." My eyes widened and I got all the confirmation I needed. He does like me! As Andrew was leaning in to kiss me, there was an explosion from the front door. All I could see was Junior take Aisha in his arms and swing them away from the door with his webs. Andrew pulled me closer to him and backed up. A figure was emerging from the exploded door way. They wore some form of silver armor and green cloth.
"I'm here for Iris." The figure said and my blood turned to ice. Me,
"No the hell you're not." Dean growled firing bullets at the mystery person. Did he have that gun in him the whole time?
The bullets did nothing to even harm the figure. The person flicked their wrist and in an instant, Sam, Dean, and Castiel were knocked out.
"No more games. The girl." The person said. The voice sounded robotic and male.
"You're gonna have to go through me first." Junior said, walking out.
"PJ, no!" I cried, breaking free of Andrew's hold. Junior and I looked over at each other having a silent conversation with our eyes. He knew me too well.
"Iris, you can't," Junior pleaded.
"I have to!"
"What will mom and dad say!"
"It's better this way. No one else gets hurt." I turned to the person and took hesitant steps toward them.
"Iris." Natalia sobbed before trying to run toward me. Thankfully, Aisha scooped her up before she could get to me. The person grabbed my arm in their cold vice like grip and a single tear fell from my eye.
"I love you guys." I said and then we vanished.
Peter's POV
We landed in front of the bunker, immediately taking note of the hole in front.
"Shit." Lyric cursed running ahead of me. When we entered the bunker, Junior was pacing with his phone to his ear.
"Mommy, daddy!" Natalia sniffled. I picked her up and let her hide her face in my chest.
"PJ, where is Iris?" Lyric asked walking up to Junior. His eyes were red and his face contorted into a mix of shame, anger, and guilt.
"That person...they took her. She went with them so no one else would get hurt. Sh-She said it was the only way." He said, his voice breaking off at the end. My heart dropped and I looked over at Lyric. Her face was blank and hard to read. I would've thought she died from shock if I didn't notice the rise and fall of her breathing.
"Peter, let's go get our daughter." Lyric uttered after standing silent. She turned to leave when Junior grabbed her arm.
"Mom, I'm coming too!" He cried. Lyric shoved him back, her eyes glowing green.
"The hell you are! We have no suit for you and you're not ready!" She yelled.
"But mom-"
"You couldn't even protect your sister! You're no hero Junior, you're just a kid who shoots webs." With that Lyric left the bunker and Junior was left staring at where his mother once stood.
"PJ..." He turned to me, tears freely running down his chin.
"I...she wouldn't listen." He sniffled before walking away.
I couldn't deal with this right now. I had to go.
"Sam, Dean, Cas, just stay safe alright. All of you stay safe." I said. I put down Natalia who was staring up at me with wet brown eyes.
"I don't like this." She sniffled.
"We'll be home in time for bed time, Princess." I smiled, kissing her cheeks. I brushed back her curly hair and had to fight back my own tears. "I love you so much, Talia."
"Don't say it like that daddy. Tell me when you come home tonight." Natalia frowned, kissing my forehead. I stood up and went after Lyric. When I found her she was sitting in the quinjet typing in a location.
"You found Iris?" I asked.
"He's heading to Kansas." Lyric answered curtly.
"Alright, I'll tell Tony." Lyric turned to me, her eyes refusing to meet mine.
"It's time, Bug." She said firmly. I cocked my head in confusion.
"Time?"
"It's up to me to stop Doom, no one else can be involved. It's risky even having you come along."
"Lyric...I thought we talked about this."
"Not practically. Our time is up, Peter, and you can't change my mind." With that, we took off and all I could do is just stare at the woman I love, suddenly a stranger.
