*1 Week Later*

Lyric's POV

I looked down at the address on the file and then at the house across the street.

My mom was in there.

It was a long drive upstate Buffalo, but I knew it would be worth it. My phone vibrated and I saw another text from Peter.

Ik you can't text me back, but at least let me know if you saw this. I hope you're safe

I smiled slightly and turned on my read receipts. I looked back at the house and took a deep breath. It's now or never...

I climbed out of the car and crossed to the pale blue house. There were different colored flowers all around the house giving it a pleasant vibe. I rang the doorbell nervously. After a minute, I saw her at the door. Her hair was closely cropped to her ears, her eyes just like mine, her skin a rich brown. She was slim yet slightly shorter than me.

"How can I help you?" Her voice was sweet and comforting. Tears sprang to my eyes and I struggled to find my voice.

"I-I'm Lyric. You're my mom." I stuttered hoarsely.

"Lyric?! But, you're dead. You disappeared with your father and his wife." My mother gasped.

"I'm here, mommy. I came to find you." Mom took me in her arms and held me tight.

"I can't believe it...you're here." She mumbled into my chest.

"I can't believe it either." I laughed happily.

I entered my mom's house and looked at the quaint, homey room. It was bright orange in the living room and a happy yellow elsewhere.

"Where have you been? What have you been doing?" Mom asked ushering me to a seat across from her.

"I left my kidnappers when I was 12 and had been living with some good people in Manhattan since then," I explained.

"Oh my, you must be hungry or something from your trip. Tea, a sandwich?" Mom gasped, rising from her seat.

"Do you have any lemon tea?" I asked.

"Of course. I just boiled some water." Mom grabbed a tea bag and poured the tea for me, adding a spoon of sugar.

"Thank you." I smiled, taking the teacup.

"So how have you been? I...I missed so much." Mom said regretfully.

"I have a job as an assistant at Stark Industries."

"With Tony Stark?! That's so exciting. My...your father would be proud. What else?"

"I um, I have a boyfriend. His name is Peter and he's so sweet."

"How long have you two been together?"

"About 2 years."

"Must be serious. Tell me more about the people who raised you."

"Well, it was more like a whole group of them raised me. They're so kind and funny, but...I always wondered about you and Dad. I had no clue you were alive and I—I missed all those years with you."

"How would you like to stay? At least for a week and we can catch up."

"...I'd love to." Mom smiled and hugged me.

"Do you mind if I use your phone? I need to make a call." I asked.

Tony's POV

"Pepper, I'm swamped right now, I just can't get out for lunch. I'm down an assistant." I sighed.
