Lyric's POV

"And done! Lyric, you look so beautiful." Liz grinned. The smokey eyeshadow looked immaculate over my eyes and my lips covered in a red-tinted gloss.

"Thanks, Liz." I smiled, but it didn't reach my eyes.

"Lyric, Jack is waiting for you outside," Dad said, peeking into my room.

"I'll be down in a minute dad," I said.

"Are you nervous? Cause you shouldn't be. Jack likes you for you and you're easily gonna be the prettiest girl there." Liz encouraged. I hugged her tightly, blinking back the tears threatening to spill.

"You're such a good friend, Liz. I'm lucky to have had you." I sniffled. I pulled out of the hug, not missing Liz's confused face, and walked down the stairs where Jack stood in the doorway.

"Lyric, you look amazing. I'm...wow, just wow." He stuttered. Once again I forced a smile and took his hand in mine.

"Bye," I said to dad and Jenny.

"Have fun you two!" Jenny smiled. The car ride to the gala was silent.

"Is everything okay? You seem really quiet." Jack asked.

"No, it's not," I replied truthfully.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No." We pulled up to the building and walked down the gold carpet. Pictures were flashing and just all around blinding me.

"I'm gonna get you a drink, okay," Jack stated leaving me. I knew he couldn't stand having such a boring date and I couldn't blame him.

I had completely lost.

I had nothing here. Only people who want me to be a person I never was. I never was popular, I never knew my father and stepmother well enough to be who they expect me to be, and I'm not a good sister.

I'm nothing.

Every breath I took without being with my real family felt as if I was dying and it hurt more than words can explain. I walked out on the balcony and looked down at the New York City traffic.

"Mr. Voice, I don't know if you can hear me, but I'm done. I can't...I can't stay here anymore. Please, if you're listening, take me home." I begged to the stars.

Silence.

I dropped my head down and grabbed onto the balcony railing.

What have I got to lose that I didn't already throw away?

"Lyric?" I turned to see Peter watching me with fear.

"It's okay. I'm not meant to be here anyway." I smiled sympathetically.

"D-don't! Don't do that to yourself. Of course, you're meant to be here." He said.

"Don't you get it? The old me wouldn't even glance at you, but this me knows who you are and what you have to offer. I know how good you are Peter Benjamin Parker. But you're with Jaime, you're not meant for me in this world. The Peter I loved is dead and I'm gonna join him."

"I don't understand."

"You're Spider-Man. Your uncle Ben passed away and you miss him every day. I know you, Peter Parker. I know you so well that a part of me is you and I can't live without you. I can't live without everything I once had!" Peter grabbed me by my arms and pulled me to him.

"What the hell, Lyric? You're the strongest person I know. If anyone can live even after everything has been taken from them, it's you. Why do you think I like you so much?" He said seriously. I looked at those lips and pressed mine to them. Peter kissed me back as passionately as I had kissed him.
