Pearl walked over and hugged Steven gently "I'm so happy that you will be okay. You scared me so much.
"Yeah, she wouldn't stop pacing back and forth and lost focus on a gem rescue. It's was kinda funny." Amethyst sat down in the chair grabbing the rest of the donuts Greg had brought to the room and tried to eat them.
"Hey, I brought those for Steven so don't even think about eating them all." Greg grabbed them quickly.
"So there was a gem spotted? The signals and motion detectors that Peridot and Bismuth worked so hard on actually helped." Steven smiled sitting up in the bed.
"Yes, we were able to see on your gem computer in your room exactly where the signal was coming from. Even the animal tracking cameras that Greg let us purchase got a photo of the gem so we could do a little research on it to make sure that the capturing wasn't too rough like you wanted." Garnet leans against the wall. "I have to say that things are a lot different from your ideas Steven. They are effective and well thought out. You have grown up nicely."
Steven smiled again. "Well, I couldn't have done it without the help of the Diamonds too. They are the ones that have us full details of their gems that were made on Earth or were trapped here from the war."
_____
Mrs. Maheswaran walked into the room and sighs. "I wasn't expecting all of you to come back so soon. But I'll let you know that Steven is okay to go home on watch."
"On watch?" Pearl looked a little confused.
"That just means that it's up to us to make sure that he is well taken care of. Don't worry mom, we can handle it." Connie smiled.
"Since I can't do anything for your gem, I'm leaving everything to you people." Mrs. Maheswaran gave Greg the release papers for Steven and kissed Connie's forehead. "Behave, and do try to come home soon."
"Yes ma'am." Connie hugged her mother before helping Steven up from the bed. "Do you think you can walk to the van?"
"I hope so." Steven placed his feet on the floor and stands up wobbling. He hangs onto Connie's arms. "Okay...maybe I need a little help."
"Don't worry, I won't let you fall." Connie giggled wrapping her arm around Steven. She slowly walked with him to the door and out of the hospital to the van that was parked crocked.
_____
Greg and the Gems follow behind the two. He looked at his park job. "Whoops, I guess I parked in a hurry I didn't notice how bad it was."
"It's okay Dad, you were just worried about me." Steven gets into the front seat with the help of Connie and buckled in. "Wait, how did you guys get here?"
Lion walked out from behind the van and roars softly pressing his large body against Pearl almost making her fall over.
"Oh would you get off of me." Pearl asked becoming uncomfortable. "I will take my chances and ride in the van." She hurried into the back doors closing them to hide from Lion.
"Pearl he isn't going to bite or anything. You have known him for years now." Steven looked back at the nervous gem.
"I know that, I am still getting used to it is all." Pearl sat down sighing in relief.
Garnet gets onto lions back. "More room for me."
Amethyst jumped into the backseat with Connie. "Let's go get some good donuts. To the Big Donut!"
Greg sighs and started up the van driving away from the hospital.
Steven looked over his shoulder at Connie for a moment before staring out the window silently. He was a little upset with himself from pushing Connie to far into their newly formed relationship. Listening to his Dad's story about his relationship with his mother made him realize that there is a time and a place for it. But he didn't know when it would be a perfect time. He thought that the place of choice would be his room and this made him blush a little as his mind started to think about all the weird and dirty things that the two of them could do in his room alone together. He stopped thinking about it and shakes his head. 'No, I have to give this time. I can't ruin things with Connie. I can't rush into this anymore. Maybe I should just tell her to go home for a while. We should have some space... Or is that a bad thing? Do we need space? Or just spend time together but keep it simple? Agh, what am I going to do?!?' Steven got lost in thought not even noticing that they were back in Beach City.
_____
Greg parked in front of the Big Donut and looked surprised that Amethyst was already outside of the van and heading into the store. "Well, it looks like I will be buying a bunch for her today."Steven puts a hand on his stomach slowly getting out of the van. He moved his hand up to stop Connie from helping him. "It's okay, I got it." He looked up seeing Garnet still riding on Lion. "Hey, can I get a lift to the house?" He asked.
Garnet nods holding out her hand to assist Steven onto the pink lion.
Connie frowns looking a little worried. "Do you want me to come with you?"
"No, you should get something to eat. You haven't eaten in a day." Steven put on a fake smile. "I'm just going to lay down. Come to the house when my Dad is ready." Steven leans against Garnet back as the two of them ride off.
Connie nods and frowns seeing that Steven was trying to be a little distant from her. She ignores that thought and headed inside the Big Donut to get something to eat.
