(Devyn)

Xander was quickly grabbing his shoes putting them on as I tried to get ready quickly.

Eli too.

"Baby, calm down."

"I can't. Im just...I can't, Babe. This surgery is terrifying. Anything could happen to her, Dev. I want to be there with you in case."

"Okay. Okay, we'll be there. I'll be there by your side the entire time. You hear me?"

I hugged him and his heart was racing.

"Okay. Breathe. Let's get Eli to my Mom's for the day. We go to the hospital, support your Mom through her surgery. Be there for her when she wake up."

He nodded and we finished getting ready.

I threw my messy hair back into a high bun. Xander was getting Elijah's bag ready for my Mom's.

"Ready?"

"Yep."

I grabbed my phone and his along with his wallet and his keys.

"You almost forgot the keys."

He took them from me and we headed out the door, locking the apartment up.

We walked down the hall to the elevator stepping on and selecting the garage level.

....

"How is he?"

My Mom looked at Xander who was anxiously waiting to get to the hospital.

"He's scared. I've never seen him this heartbroken since my incident."

"He's a good man, Devyn. You're definitely his luck charm."

She grabbed Eli and his bag from and I kissed his cheek.

"Thank you again for watching him today while we are at the hospital."

"Of course, sweetie. I have a whole day planned with him. Liam's at work so this is a better opportunity."

I kissed my Mom's cheek and I waved bye to Eli as I walked back to the SUV.

"Ready?"

I nodded in response and we headed to the hospital.

Xander kept both of his hands on the steering wheel which felt different since he's always had his left on the wheel and his right is in mine or on my thigh.

The next thing I knew, he reached for my hand carefully, as he collided our fingers together.

His thumb ran in circles and I stayed quiet.

....

We arrived to the hospital and I my hand was glued to his the entire time.

He was terrified.

Scared.

Worried.

Anxiety sets in but I wanted to be strong for him. Not worry him anymore than he already is.

The elevator doors opened and everyone we love is sitting in the waiting room.

William was sitting furthest away from everyone, sitting there.

"Pops? How is she?"

"In surgery now. We haven't heard anything back yet."

"How long has she been back there," Xander asked his father eagerly.

"Few hours now."

Xander and I found a seat sitting by a window.

I watched Xander for a while now. He couldn't sit still, pacing the waiting area. Taking smoke breaks, hoping and praying.
