There was a huge mission coming up. It was by far the most dangerous and risky. They were going deep into Titan territory to make a base in the forest. They had to bring a lot of materials for it. That meant more carts, and that meant going at a slower pace. The slower pace would allow titans to catch up to the fleeing regiment. Erwin, a section commander had been in love with Y/n for a long time. They had attended school together where they became best friends, and then he convinced her to join the scouts with him. They'd survived training and many, many, missions together. Over the years, they had fallen for each other, neither of them knowing about the other's feelings. It was frustrating. Especially for Hanji who shipped the two of you.

"MY SHIP!" She once shouted when you were tending to Erwin's wounds. You blushed knowing the true meaning of her words.

At present time, everyone was in the mess hall eating their dinner. The section commanders and the commander had decided to give a big feast that night. With meat. It was rowdy and crazy, but you enjoyed it. You were one of the section commanders, and you knew that not many would be alive in two days. Someone touched your elbow, and jerked you out of your thoughts.

"E-Erwin?"

"Y/n, can we talk? Outside?"

"Oh. Sure." The two of you walked into the hallway outside the mess hall and you stopped.

"I meant out outside." You followed him out of the base. There was a cool breeze. It was nice.

"What is it Erwin?" He looked up into your eyes and blushed lightly.

"This mission coming up... it's dangerous."

"I know."

"Uh! That's not what I meant! I knew you know that. It's just I need to-" You laughed.

"Calm down! I know what you mean."

"You do?"

"Well kind of. What are you trying to say?" He averted his gaze. Then he breathed in and straightened his back. He looked you straight in the eye and said his next words.

"Y/n. I love you. And I want you to be careful tomorrow. Okay? You were shocked at his boldness. Well, he was always like that, saying the truth straight out, but it still shocked you.

"What kind of love?" You asked, just to be careful he didn't mean like a sister.

"The 'my palms get sweaty around the horse reins when you wish me luck' love."

"Oh. I-I feel the same actually." You blushed.

"Really?" He raised his beautiful eyebrows.

"For a long time dummy. You never noticed?"

"Heh. No. You never noticed either." You looked away.

"Nothing about you. Or us. This is such bad timing. Like we're in a tragic story or something."

"I know what you mean. I wish we could have done this earlier. I never had the courage."

"And I always thought it was the wrong time."

"Well let's think about it this way. It's our first time."

"Not like that!" He bent down and kissed you on the lips. His lips were soft. And cold from the nighttime temperature. You put your arms around his neck to deepen it. Suddenly, loud cadets burst out of the building and you two broke apart.
