You sighed. "Again?" You asked. You heard your dad sigh as you sat back in bed. "I'm so lonely, we need a smaller house," You sighed into the phone.
"I know, love, but its the last trip of the year, I promise," Your dad said to you. "I'll be home in no time, I promise," He said. All these broken promises. You nodded pointlessly nad she sighed.
"Okay, one week?" You asked. You heard a sound of agreement. "Where are you?" You asked.
Another business trip. I mean, you were thankful for all the money your dad made, but with all the time you spent alone? It really wasn't worth it. He was always away on business trips. Always, and it made you so upset. You'd grown up alone for the most part. With him away all the time, your grandparents had raised you.
But as you got older, your grandparents went back to their hometown and you were alone. And with your dad always away, the thought of getting your house broken into was always there, in the back of your head.
"New York," You sighed and nodded, standing up to brush out your hair before bed. "I'll call you in the morning?" She asked. You sighed.
"Yeah okay," You said. "Love you, dad," You said, falling back into bed.
"Bye, love you." And the line went dead.
You sighed, looking around your room. You had the house to yourself again. You could do literally whatever you wanted. But you weren't going to throw a party or invite all your friends.
Nope, you made the decision of going for a walk.
A walk at 11 pm? Yeah, pretty risky. But you were upset. And alone. And a walk would clear your head. And so you went, careful to lock the house up properly and putting your headphones on, blocking out any other noise with your music.
You walked down the streets of your neighborhood and took in the smell of the fresh air. You didn't open the blinds too much at home, too afraid of forgetting to close them. You sighed, shoving your hands into your pockets and looking around. It was dark.
Well no shit, it was almost midnight. But it was still scary. You weren't scared of the dark. Just of the people that may be lurking in it. You sighed as you looked up at the light. You'd made it to the main road. This was normally where you turned and went home. But no.
Today, you decided to keep walking.
And so you did, not paying attention to the light, the one signaling for you to not walk. Because it was red. Not green. But you weren't paying attention. You just kept walking, not seeing the car coming to a screeching halt right before almost hitting you. You didn't hear it either, not with the volume of your music, basting in your ears.
But you did feel the pair of arms pulling you back.
You screamed as you felt the lights come to a halt in front of you and you turned to see the car being turned on again. You fell backward, onto the person that grabbed you and you heard them groan too.
You pulled off your headphones and looked around. The road was empty. The car that had almost hit you had driven away, too afraid of being at fault. You sighed as you looked behind you, still sitting on top of the person that had saved your life.
You gasped and sat up to see the man holding his arm, a large scrape on his forearm and elbow. You crouched down next to him and helped him up. "I'm so sorry, are you okay?" You asked as you helped him. He sucked in a breath as he looked at his arm, starting to bleed. "Oh my god, you're bleeding!" You exclaimed.
