"You okay, doctor?" you asked. Grayson nodded, staring at the file at hand. "She's in the waiting room, right now."

"Is she doing okay, is she feel-"

"You can go talk with her," you said, patting his shoulder. He nodded, standing from his desk. "The heart's in good condition so as soon as she's ready, we can begin surgery." Grayson nodded, pulling on his coat and heading out of the room.

"She's so small- six-years-old?" he asked. You nodded. He shook his head.

"She'll be alright, she'll have a lower chance of rejection." He shuddered, thinking about it.

"I hate doing surgeries like this on little children." You patted his shoulder and he looked at you for a moment. You gave him a little smile and he cleared his throat, looking away quickly.

You followed him out as he headed to the patient's room. "Hey," he said with a smile. You closed the door behind you as you began to prep her room for after surgery- hoping that it goes well.

"Hi," the little girl said, kicking her feet against the hospital bed. Gray pulled up a chair in front of her and you watched from the corner of your eye. "Are you the doctor?" she asked.

"I'm the surgeon," he told her with a smile. "Are you ready?"

"'S it gonna hurt?" Gray smiled. "I've got lots of needles before, and I'm not scared of those!" Gray chuckled.

"Don't worry, you'll be asleep so you won't feel a thing." She nodded, sighing. "What did you feel like when your mom got the phone call?" She smiled.

"Well, she woke me up! And she said that I was gonna have a heart and then we got our stuff and got here!" Gray smiled. "Are you scared?"

"Why would I be scared?" Gray asked. You motioned for her to get into the wheelchair and Gray helped her into it.

"Because there's gonna be lots of blood, right?" Gray smiled. "Blood's a little bit scary, don't you think?"

"I've done this before," he said with a small smile. "I can handle a little blood."

"Woah," she whispered. You smiled, pushing the door open. "Are you my doctor?" she asked.

"I'm a nurse," you said with a smile "I'm gonna be helping Dr. Dolan."

"Oh, okay." You nodded and pushed her chair. You watched as her mother walked over to kiss her on the head before she left. You reassured her that it would go well and Grayson smiled. "Bye, mommy."

"Bye, Esther." Gray smiled, walking with you to the surgery room.

"So, how long's it gonna take, Doctor?" Gray smiled.

"A pretty long time, heart transplants's not anything easy," Gray said with a smile.

"But you're a pro, right?" she asked. Grayson chuckled.

"Let's get you on the bed," he said with a sigh. She reached her arms up and Gray helped her onto the bed as other nurses scrambled around the room. She stared at the ceiling.

"Are you gonna be my friend?" the little girl asked. Gray smiled, cleaning the inside of her elbow for an IV to go through, while another doctor hooked her up to a machine to help her stay alive during the surgery.

"Sure, I'll be your friend, Esther." She smiled.

"Do lots of kids like me get heart surgeries?" She didn't even wince as Gray inserted the needle. Gray's face fell.
