"Ma'am, I'm gonna have to ask you to leave," The waiter said, tapping his fingers on his clipboard. You looked up at him. "You're taking up a table that could otherwise be us-"
"Just a few more minutes, he'll be here soon," You told him. The waiter sighed and shook his head, walking away, sure to be back soon.
Your eyes filled with tears as you resumed your waiting. He was over an hour late now. You'd made reservations for 5:30. It was nearing seven. And your few minutes were up too, as you saw the waiter making his way back. You sighed, dropping your phone into your purse, ready to stand.
"You're taking up unnecessary space, I'm gonna have to ask you to le-"
"Talk to her like that one more time and I'll make sure they free up the unnecessary space you take up," A man said from behind him. You looked up to see the glint of an earring through your blurring vision. "We'll be ready to order in a few moments if you'd like to make yourself useful and come back."
The man pulls your chair out for you and confused, you sit back down. The waiter watches as the man takes his seat in front of you. "Sorry I'm late, babe, got caught up." The waiter now walks away, rubbing his temples, getting way too sick of his job.
"Who are you?" You ask. The man chuckles. "I should g-"
"I'm your date," He says with a smile. He pours some water into his glass, your eyes wander to his hands. Wow. "You want some?" He asks. You don't answer.
"You're not my boyfriend." He chuckles and shakes his head, pouring you some water anyway.
"You're boyfriend's a dick."
You're quiet. You look up at him and frown.
"He's my boyfriend, and he's a perfectly good person, thank you," You say. "I should go, I don't even know your na-"
"Grayson." He says. You look up to meet his gaze. "The name's Grayson." You sigh.
"Y/N." He nods.
"And the fact that you chose to defend a douche who doesn't even show up to dinner with you show you how lucky of a dick he is." You stay quiet. "I'm not your boyfriend, but we can pretend so you can have the dinner you've been waiting for." He smiles and another waiter comes by. You sigh and shrug.
This couldn't hurt, right?
You and Grayson both order and as the waiter walks off, you look at him for a moment. He clears his throat and smiles at you. "How's your day been, y/n?" He asks. You sigh.
"Alright, I guess, not terrible," You tell him. He nods, leaning down with his chin in his palm to listen to you. "Went to work, got home, got ready, and now we're here." He nods. "How was your day, Grayson?"
"It's been okay," He starts. You nod and play with your ring. "Had a few meetings with my brother, did some work, and came to have dinner by myself, and now I've scored myself a temporary girlfriend." You let out a soft laugh.
"Awh," You say with a smile. He grins. "What was the meeting for, if you'd like to say."
"Oh yeah, no worries, my twin and I've got a fragrance company, we had a few pitches to listen to," He says. Your eyebrows raise. He chuckles.
"Like you own the place?" He nods. "Wow."
"Yeah," He says with another chuckle. "Where do you work?"
