(y/n pov)

"Who's this?" You whispered. You'd just put Carter to sleep. You heard the person on the other end clear their throat.

"It's, uh, Gray."

"Oh!" You gasped. You closed the door of the nursery and walked down the hall. "Hi."

"Hi, I was just wondering if you got home alright." You walked to the dishwasher to put everything away.

"Yeah, it's all good." You heard him hum.

"I have, like, questions," He said. "If you have time- if you're busy with her, you can just call me back when you're free-"

"Now's good, I just put her down to sleep." You could feel his smile on his side. "What's up?"

"Well, I was wondering if like, for now, I just got to see her? Come see her at your place- or we can meet up somewhere, that's cool too. I don't think it's right if she spent weekends with me, like, now." You nodded, turning your coffee machine on. Realizing he couldn't see you, you spoke.

"Yeah, that would make sense." He coughed. "You could come here, that would work good, you could just- stay for a couple of hours with her."

"Yeah, yeah, okay." You stirred your coffee. "Uh, does your, you know, boyfriend live with you? Or do you live with him or something?" You sighed.

"No, I live alone- with Carter too, now." You smiled, realizing this.

"Okay, I was just wondering." You hummed, heading to your couch to sit down. It was almost eleven- maybe coffee wasn't such a good idea, but your mom had also told you that you probably also wouldn't be getting any sleep, so. "Are you going to head to bed with her?"

"I think she'll wake up soon, and I'm not all that tired." You heard him cough again. "Are you okay?"

"Oh yeah- I was just building something earlier and I think I got sawdust down my throat or some shit." You smiled, blowing steam off of your mug.

"You still build?" He grunted and you heard something on his end. "Are you still building- this late?"

"Yeah, just something I thought you might-" And Carter began to wail. You sighed, putting your coffee down on the flat armrest and stood. "Oh, is that her?"

"Yeah, I'll talk to you later, okay?" He sighed on his end.

"Yeah, okay, bye, y/n." You ended the call, rushing over to your little one.

"Hi, my love," You whispered, picking up the newborn. You'd stayed in the hospital for a week, a few extra checkups having been needed for Carter. "What's wrong?" She cried some more and you sat down on the armchair you'd put in the room.

You fed her, leaning back, wishing the chair rocked so you could put her to sleep. Ad once she was done, she fell right back asleep in your arms. Surprised that it happened so quickly, too afraid to move, you just sat back with her in your arms and fell asleep too. Despite the single sip of coffee you had, you were able to snooze for another couple of hours.

"Hey." He slipped off his shoes and followed you in.

"Did you find the unit okay?" He shrugged.

"I asked the lady down at the front for help so." You nodded. "Is she sleeping?" You nodded and he looked around your place while he followed you into the apartment. You pushed a box of diapers away as you walked into the nursery.

He looked around before his eyes landed on the baby. He smiled. "If she wakes up, I'll have to feed her, and I don't exactly feel like doing that, so stay quiet," You whispered. He chuckled softly, hands on the ledge of her crib.
