"So," He said with a smile once you walked out of the building together. "This is gonna sound so stupid but- you wanna get a drink together tonight?" You raised an eyebrow.
"Is that really a good idea?"
"Anything in moderation is okay," He recited. "And I did like the taste of it, I just overdid it." You smiled.
"Well, in that case, if you'd like to, then sure." He smiled and nodded.
"So, E." He nodded. "I'll see you there?" You walked to your car and the uber he'd called for a little while ago was already there. He'd walked you to your car.
"I still can't have your number?" You smiled. "Oh, come on, we met here, that's pretty, uh, fatal." You laughed.
"That word doesn't mean what you want it to there," You said. "Or I hope not." He chuckled.
"I don't know, but- number?" You shrugged.
"We'll have to see, Ethan." He sighed, shaking his head.
"Watch, I won't see you for another fourteen months." You laughed. "Whatever, see you tonight, or else, I'll come to your apartment." You laughed.
"I moved, actually."
"You're kidding." You smiled, getting into the car. "I better see you."
"Maybe you will."
And a few hours later, E got his way. "I was about to look through a phone book for your number." You laughed, slipping into the seat next to him.
"You want it that bad?" He shrugged.
"If I recall correctly," He paused. "I was the one to talk to you first and asked to buy you a drink because I thought you were pretty and worth spending time on and mind you, you were probably the first person I spoke to willingly in two years, so." You raised your eyebrows.
"Wow, I feel honoured." He laughed. "So, drinks?" You both got something each and clinked glasses against each other.
"So."
"So."
You smiled, pulling your phone out. "About fucking time." You laughed as he handed you his. "Thank you."
"What're you gonna do with it?"
"Call you." You laughed. "Thank you, though."
"For?"
"I don't know, I just-" He stopped to take a sip. "Everything happens for a reason, even tiny things and just- meeting you, changed my lie."
"I don't thin-"
"It's all been a chain of events," He said. "I don't know about you but I really believe in that fate bullshit now." You smiled.
"You know why I came to that workshop today?" He tilted his head. "I was hoping to see you."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I just, saw the flier tucked onto the window of my car and I thought of you." He smiled. "I was just like, if I'm hoping that you're going to be at this recovering alcoholic workshop, then it's gotta mean something."
