-Tessa's POV-
We pulled into a parking spot on one of the main streets in front of one the city's small stores.
Hayes gets out and shuts the door behind him. Looking behind me, I realize that I left my purse at the condo. "Hayes." I say opening the door and sticking half of my body out.
"Yeah?"
"I left my purse at the house, should we go get it?"
Hayes smiles. Walking over he grabs my hand and pulls me away from the car. Shutting the door, he smiles. "I've got it."
I nod, knowing that the guyish thing to do. He smiles. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he skips up onto the sidewalk and begins walking down the block, with me at his side.
We walk in silence for a block, giving me time to look around. I notice that the next few blocks are full of small shops and little cafes. The whole block has a nice tone to it. Nice calm colors of paint on each of the shops, giving it a cozy feeling.
"Tessa." Hayes says somewhere behind me.
Wait. Behind me?
Turning around, I realize Hayes had stopped at one of the shops, but I was to preoccupied to notice. "Oh." I say walking back toward him. "Sorry, I was looking around."
He smiles. "It's okay. I've done it before. Hungry?" He asks motioning to the shop in front of us. Smiling, I nod.
Opening the door, Hayes and I walk inside. The inside is pleasantly warm. The whole room has many wooden tables and chairs, and a nice fire place with two chairs in front of it. The whole place has a homey feel. Like my grandma's house. But nicer... and smells better.
"You can find us a seat if you want. I'll grab us something to eat." Hayes says softly near my ear. I nod and walk over to the fire place.
I quickly examine the fireplace and smile. Kind of like the one you see in movies. Made of brick with a nice rug in the front as well as two comfy chairs to finish it off. I notice a bookshelf full of old books as well as modern ones. Glancing over them, I spot my favorite book of all time, Swiss Family Robinson.
Walking over, I slide the book from it's place on the shelf. Flipping through the old pages, I take a seat on the seat next to me and open to the first page.
The story starts out in the old days, before all of the islands were ever found, maybe even before America, you never know. So the family is abandoned by the captain and crew when the ship is stranded on the side of some rocks in the ocean, what's left of it at least. And they have to find a way to get off the boat and make it to the nearest island. It's a pretty amazing book, I love the story of it. Don't worry, I won't spoil it.
I make it to the part where they begin trying to find a way off the boat when Hayes walks over holding hot chocolate and muffins in his hands. "Sorry, the line was longish." He says holding out the cup to me.
Smiling, I set down the book and take the cup from him and set it on the small table next to me. "Thanks, it's okay, I was just reading."
He nods and takes a seat across from me. "What book?" He asks taking a sip of his hot chocolate. Holding up the book so he can see the cover, his eyes examine it but his expression doesn't change. "I've never heard of it." He finally says before he unwraps his muffin.
I nod. "Well it's my favorite book ever, my mom used to read it to me when I was little." I explain.
He smiles and looks up from his muffin, crumbs smeared across his lips and cheeks. "Sounds awesome, I'll have to read it." He mumbles through his muffin.
I burst out laughing. "But I haven't even told you anything about it."
He smiles at me.
"If you find something awesome, then there's no way it's not."
I smile shyly. "Thanks."
He nods. I look down at the muffin in my lap and realize how hungry I am. Tearing open the plastic cover, I break off a piece and pop it in my mouth, the taste making me smile.
And for the next few minutes, we sit there in silence eating what we call breakfast. Once I finish, I lay my head back and stare at the flames.
I wonder what the day holds ahead of us.
