~Justin’s point of view~
Ever since that incident with David Langford, most of the students in every class I went in would just stare at me in utter shock. It was really difficult to ignore. In the end, I just glared at them and they immediately turn away.
The bell rang and we started packing up our things. I never was fond of rushing out of the class like a rat race. Once the classroom was cleared, I walked out and made my way down the hall to my locker. As I walked pass the students, their eyes were stuck on me. It’s so different from then and now. Last time, they stared at me in disgust and menace. Now, they’re too stunned and shaken up.
I stood in front of my locker and opened it. I could hear murmurs from behind and it was no surprise it was about me. I tried to ignore it and just relax. Somehow it was a little irritating as I try ignoring it and in the end, I snapped.
“Hey! If you want to talk about me so much, come directly at me.” I spat when I turned around to them. It was two girls who looked to be younger than me. Probably juniors. They jumped in shock and scurried away into the sea of students. I glared at them from their backs as they walked away. I sighed and turned back to putting my stuff into my locker.
I felt a presence beside me. “What did they ever do to you?” The voice of my beautiful fiancée spoke making me smile and turn to look down at her. “They were gossiping about me when I’m just in front of them.” I told and kissed her lips. She pulled away and crossed her arms across her chest.
“How was class?” She asked.
I shrugged and closed my locker. “It was okay only now they don’t throw spit balls behind me.” I wrapped an arm around her waist and led ourselves to the cafeteria.
She chuckled. “That’s good news.” I smiled and nodded. “It is.”
When we stepped into the cafeteria, all eyes were on us. We both ignored them and made our way to get our meals. We didn’t want to eat in a room where it feels like you’re being stared at almost burning holes into our bodies. Darielle and I decided to eat outside on the bleachers. Once we sat down, we placed our trays on our laps and started to dig in.
It was really peaceful out here. The sound of the whistling wind and the leaves on the big tree at the corner of the field were waving. It was really quiet between us but it wasn’t awkward. “Hey,” I spoke after swallowing the sandwich. “What are you planning to do once you land there?”
She swallowed her sandwich before looking straight ahead, not meeting my eyes. “I’m going to see what’s been going on. If I’m fortunate, I would face my grandfather.” I blinked as I took in her words. “Fortunate? What do you mean?” I asked. She sighed and placed her tray beside her and leaned back with her elbows on the bench behind us.
“I’ve learned that he wasn’t really fond of me.” She explained. “To be honest, I don’t really know what my neglected duty is.” My eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
“I mean, he sent me away for a reason. I was starting to think that I was getting in the way of his plans but I couldn’t care less.” She said as I placed my tray beside me and leaned on my fist as I listened.
“All I wanted was to learn, that’s it.” She said softly. I listened to her voice attentively and observed her expressions. I could see a hint of sorrow in her eyes and voice had this helpless tone. It sucks that someone had to send her away just because she wants to learn. I swear if I ever meet with her no-good-of-an-excuse grandfather, I would push him off his wheelchair. I bet if mom ever heard my thoughts right now, I would be six feet under though.
I reached and wrapped my arms around her waist; I pulled her in my embrace. I pressed my face against the nape of her neck. I could tell she was taken aback by her tense body but she relaxed and hugged me back. “Well, I’m glad you got sent away.” I said as I placed a gentle kiss on her neck before pulling away. She had this confused look. She reminds me of a puppy. “We get to meet and be together.” I finished as I chuckled after that.
She stared at me adoringly before kissing my nose and rubbed her nose against mine; I responded. “You’re so cheesy.” She whispered and kissed my lips. I smiled and kissed back. I love the feeling of her soft lips. It’s like cotton candy; so sweet. I have no clue how she can always taste so sweet.
We both leaned back with our arms around each other’s waist. “Oh, yeah,” I spoke making Darielle turn to look up at me. “Where is it exactly you used to live?” I asked. “Hmm?” She raised her eyebrows and then looked straight ahead. “It’s in the Bahamas.” I was startled when she said that. I turned my whole body to her.
I looked at her wide-eyed. “The Bahamas?” I exclaimed in disbelief. She nodded. “I lived there for eight years. My Bahamian skin faded when I came to Canada.” She told as a smirk curved upon her lips. I sighed and shook my head. “You and your words.” I mumbled and chuckled afterwards. I sighed and pulled her closer to my side as she rested her head on my shoulder.
Then it was quiet again until I spoke up, “You know I’m going to miss you when you’re gone.” I whispered as I placed my lips on the top of her head and stayed there. She giggled and wrapped her arms around my arm as she snuggled against it. “You should or else I’d be sad.” She pouted making me smile and peck her nose.
“I promise you. There wouldn’t be a day when I don’t miss you.” I rubbed our noses together. “As long as you come back to me.”================
