That day when the sun comes up, I run to Jai's place, not walk, not slowly jog my way there, but actually physically running. I swear it's not a metaphor. I knock on his door and a few minutes later a girl answers.
"Hi." She says. She looks about Jai's age.
"Um. Hi. Is Jai here?" I ask.
"Yeah. JAI! THERE'S A GIRL AT THE DOOR FOR YOU!" She calls. She waits and glances at me every now and then as we wait for Jai to jog to the door. He looks at the girl first then see's me and his face goes pail.
"Hey." He says sounding kind of nervous.
"H-hi." I say and he half-smiles at the girl before closing the door behind him as we walk out of the door.
"Who's the new girl?" I ask.
"My mum's friend is staying and she has a daughter our age." He says and kicks at a rock on the road.
"And she wants you to make her daughter feel 'welcome'?" I ask.
"Yeah. I mean sort of, not really. Just wants me to show her around town." He says. I'm probably blowing this out of proportion, but tears sting at my eyes and I hold them back with all my will. Why am I starting to cry? I don't even like Jai the smallest bit, but jealously was the truth behind me tears.
"Of course." I say and he looks over at me.
"I swear nothing has happened." He says.
"Okay."
"Gemma. I like you, not her. She's just a friend."
"Okay."
"Stop saying okay."
"Um... sure." I say and he looks over at me again, worry plastered on his face, looking for my expression.
"Please don't stop trusting me."
"I had a dream last night." I say and ignore his begging.
"What was it about?" He asks. Should I tell him? Should I say that I had a realistic fantasy about kissing him?
"You. It was 5am and we went for a walk and then you stared into my eyes and without a word we start to walk back to my place. Then you ki-" I start to say, but his lips are on my mine and my arms are around his neck. Well...
I kissed him.
The tears fell.
I had no will to keep my feelings bottled up.
I just want him.
"Why are you crying?" He asks as he wipes the tears away.
"I don't know." I say and he pulls me into a hug.
"I'm sorry." He says.
"For what?" I say while still hugging him and panting for a non-tearful breath.
"Everything."

We walk back to my place and we hang out. Kayla talked to Jai for a bit and then we have some more time alone.
"'Just friends isn't going to work, is it?" I ask.
"Not at all, but I'll try for you."
"Yeah, but that's the point. It's not easy for me either." I say.
"I know what you mean."

The next few days all Jai did was hang out with that girl. I wanted to slap her, Jai wasn't my boyfriend, but he sure acted like he was and I wanted to sort of return that. They seemed pretty close and laughed together a lot. The jealousy kept hitting as the only person I have is Jai. So what did I do? Yeah, I sat with them.
"Hello!" I say while I sit down next Jai.
"Hey." He says, sounding excited to see me. The girl ignored me.
"Gemma this is Kelsey, Kelsey this is Gemma." He says.
"Hi." She says and I have wave.
"So, what's been up with you?" Jai asks me.
"Nothing." I feel uncomfortable about talking to Jai normally with Kelsey there. So, they talked, I have listened and looked around the courtyard until the bell rang for Art.
After school I didn't want to both Jai and Kelsey so I walked far behind them on the way home. Turns out Kelsey lived next to Kayla's school and so when she left and Jai said bye to her, I walked past them and pick up Kayla which gave Jai time to catch up. I didn't want to walk with him, not after today.
"So, Kayla how was your day?" Jai asks.
"Absolutely dreadful."
"Just wait until you get into high school." I mumble and Kayla frowns. When we get back to my place Kayla says 'BYE JAI!!!!!!', Jai and I go for a walk. I didn't want to be home, I just want to be somewhere else, with or without Jai.
"I'm sorry about kissing you yesterday. I feel like it just made things awkward between us." He admits as we sit down on the beach.
"No. It was Kelsey that made it awkward." I say and deliberately look away from him, I think Jai noticed that too.
"She has no friends."
"Neither do I." I say.
"True."
After we stare out at the ocean for a while Jai walks down to the water and I follow him. We just stand there, close enough that our hands are just touching. He turns to me and I look at him, confused.
"What?" I ask.
"Come here." He says and picks me up over his shoulder.
"No! JAI! Let me down!" I yell as I punch his back.
"Lets go for a swim." He says and after his walked out so that the water is to his hips he throws me into the water. I come up for a breath and he smirks at me.
"Asshole." I say and we laugh. We swam in our school uniforms. Despite the fact that we probably look stupid, I had fun. I splash water at Jai's back and he turns around continuing the same actions as before except I run away from him before he picked me up and threw me in the ocean again. I come up to the surface laughing and he is too.
"You're irritating." I say as I stare at his smiling face. After that we walked back to my place and he said goodbye before I went inside and he walked home, two houses down.
I run up to my room, but Kayla stops me in the hallway.
"What'd you guys do?" She asks, dumbfounded.
"Went for a swim." I laugh and she shakes her head as I close my door behind me. I slid down my door and sit there with my face in my hands. Every now and then I'd let out a laugh as I remembered back to this afternoon. I had a shower and then did my science homework.
What came next was definitely unexpected.
