Chapter 16 - Cousin?

"I JUST BOUGHT LAST PROPERTY BETCH." I yell to Jai as he is getting popcorn from the kitchen. We are at his house, alone, playing monopoly.

"You're cheating."

"No, I'm not!" I say and he smiles as the look of death crosses my face. He sits across from me on the little stool he was sitting on before. A few turns later and I run out of money.

"Frick!" I say. I lost.

"You shouldn't have bought that last property, Gem." He says, calling me by my nickname that I have gotten used to. He almost never calls me Gemma anymore.

"Shut up, Waetford." I say. We then watched a movie which I have no idea what the title of it is.

"This movie sucks." I say.

"I like this movie." He says and pretends to be sad.

"Aww, did I offend the little baby Jai?" I pretend frown and he shakes his head as he looks away from me. We're a bit immature around each other. It's been 2 months since the incident, Jai and I haven't had a fight since. We've been tight as... a lot of things. I don't get us sometimes, we can be fighting like an old married couple then be happy as two teenagers in love, it doesn't make sense. We don't make sense.

"Just like the old days." Jai notes.

"What? Bickering over monopoly and crappy movies?" I ask and he laughs.

"No. Just us being happy. We haven't been like this since before america, 4 months ago." He says and put his hand on mine, as he is looking into my eyes.

"Yes. We are quite chummy now, aren't we skipper?" I say in a weird accent, making Jai laugh again.

"Shut up." He says, I grab for my phone and log onto Twitter. My profile picture is of me kissing Jai on the cheek while he's pouting. I had my doubts about making it my profile picture, but I'm ignoring the haters. I personally love the photo.

'Hiya, Waetforders!' I tweet. Then in a different tweet I post a picture of Jai sitting on the lounge eating popcorn. He didn't realise.

"People are going to be making popcorn edits of you now." I state and he looks at me.

"What'd you do?" He asks and tries to grab the phone from me, but fails. He moves closer to me, but I'm already up and trying to hide our phones from him. I run into the kitchen and quickly hide his and my phone in the pantry.

"Come on Gem, just tell me." He says.

"No." I say, suppressing a giggle.

"Why not?" He asks.

"I mean, it's nothing bad." I say and play with a bit of my hair. It was only a tactic to annoy him, it's working.

"Just tell me or I'll tickle you." He says and I look up to meet his eyes, a smirk plastered on his face.

"No." I say and try not to smile and I run away, forgetting Jai is a lot faster than me. I hide behind the door to the kitchen and he runs past. I follow him for a few minutes until he stops and I tap his shoulder. He turns around and I smile and wave, then I start to run, but he wraps his arm around my waist.

"No. Jai!" I say and he starts to move his fingers, sending me laughing and trying to wriggle out of his hug type thing.

"I love you." I say and he stops. It's the only thing he's been wanting me to say for the last 2 years.

"What?" He asks as I step away from him.

"I tricked you." I tease and run away into the lounge room again and sit down on the couch. Jai strolls in a few seconds later and sits down next to me, he looks over at me.

"Did you mean it?"

"Mean what?" I ask.

"Do you love me?" He asks, his expressions made him look worried. His eyebrows are lifted, his eyes bore into mine, his lips are soft and so is his jaw bone. He looks so perfect.

"I'm not sure." I say.

"Okay." He says, at least he left it there. I honestly don't know if I love him. I don't hate him, but I don't love him either. The rest of the day we had alone, we just had fun and hung out. We were close, like closer than ever before and things are great. Jai has told me many times that he loves me, why can't I say it back?

We hear a door open and close and we hide up stairs, behind the stair rails. A boy with light brown hair walks into the house calling Jai's name.

"Trent! Hey brother." Jai says as he walks down the stairs and hugs the guy.

"Gem. He's my best friend." Jai says to me and I walk down the stairs to stand next to Jai.

"Hey. I'm Trent. I've heard too much about you. Jai won't shut up about you." Trent says with a smile.

"Why am I not surprised?" I ask and we both look to Jai, who has gone bright red.

"So, Trent what are you doing here?" Jai asks.

"Well, as you know I went on this huge vacation around Europe, I got bored of it so my mum sent me home to my cousins place." He says.

"I just dropped my bags off there and thought I'd come over. My aunt Anna is lovely." He says and I am shocked. That's my mum's name.

"I have never met my cousins before, but apparently the girl my age is supposed to be really nice." He says.

"What's Anna's last name?" I ask him.

"Lovett."
