Chapter 22 - Difficult is underrated

Back in the studio again and playing my guitar couldn't be anymore difficult.

"Gemma. You're not playing in time." The studio manager says.

"Sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me." I say and Jai and I start from the beginning again. It's difficult, nothing I can't play usually, but I just can't play it now.

"Okay. Why don't you two go home and relax, we have to finish the guitar part tomorrow and start mixing other instruments in, so Jai can start recording the vocal part." He says and we both leave.

"I'm sorry, Jai. I don't know what's wrong with me." I say and Jai puts his arm around me as we walk.

"It's okay." He says. "We'll start over tomorrow."

That's the problem, starting over.

The sun shines thorugh my window the next morning and I roll over away from it to find someone on my bed. I open my eyes and stare up into Jai's.

"Good morning beautiful." He says.

"Hi." I say as I sit up and wipe my eyes. He smiles at me.

"What?" I ask.

"You're just so cute when you're sleepy." He says and intwines my fingers with his.

"Well, I have to get ready." I say and slip into the bathroom with some clothes. I have a quick shower and try to relax, but I just can't. I walk back into my room and Jai is still sitting on my bed. As I'm putting on my makeup, I feel two arms wrap around me.

"You don't need make up." He says and kisses my neck, leaving tingles on my skin, I feel his breath on my shoulder and it makes me shiver.

"Yeah, I do." I say.

"No. You're beautiful just the way you are." He says I turn around to face him, his arms still around my waist.

"Okay." I say and he kisses me. It seemed to last forever, but I liked it. The door opened and in the door way stood my sister. Jai pulls away from our kiss and lets go of me immediately.

"Sorry to interrupt, I'll come back later." She says and closes the door.

"Breakfast is ready by the way." She says loud enough for us to hear through the door, Jai and I just laugh.

"That was so awkward. Lets just hope it doesn't happen again." I say and Jai nods with a smile. We walk downstairs and I slowly eat my breakfast.

"When do we have to leave for the studio?" I ask as I rinse my plate off in the sink.

"We're not going until this afternoon. I'm treating you to a day off." He says and grabs my hands.

"See you tonight Gemma, bye Jai." My mum says as we walk out of the front door.

"It's like 50 degrees, what are we going to do?" I ask.

"We are going to a cafe' and we are going to sit and talk for a while, then we are giong to go back to my place and lay in the air conditioning for the rest of the day." He says and we walk towards the local cafe'. It's small and almost no one goes there so it's completely perfect.

"What do you guys want?" The waitress says after we sit down at the back of the room.

"lattè." I say and we both look at Jai.

"Same." He says and she walks away. He turns back to me and watches me as I play with a sugar bag.

"So." I say and he doesn't say anything.

"Who knew that talking could be so difficult." He says and I nod, agreeing. After a couple of hours of non-stop talking, we decide to go back to Jai's place.

"Hey. I can't believe your 16 tomorrow. It's unfair." I say as we lay on his floor. He chuckles and it makes me smile. I stare around the room at his new decorating, guitars and ukuleles still hanging on the walls and pictures of people surfing, also pictures of him and me. I walk up to the photos of him and me, I felt like crying. One photo was of us kissing, another of us laughing at a restaurant and the that made me tear up in of us hugging, laughing and staring into each others eyes. When were we so happy.

"That's a beautiful photo." I say, my voice wobbly. Jai walks up to stand next me.

"It's my favourite." He says and I turn to him, tears and all. I'm not scared of showing my emotions to Jai anymore. He wipes a tear from under my eyes and I just realise how gentle he is.

"Here take this one, I have copies." He says and gives me the picture.

"No. It's okay." I say and he shakes his head.

"Take it." and I do.

That night at the studio I was finally able to play it properly, it made Jai happy and that's all that matters right now, but one question still lingers,

What should I get him for his birthday?..

I worked on this chapter for a looong time!

I was planning to update on Jai's birthday, even though I'm a bit late I wish Jai a very lovely 16 years and an even better year to come. 😘
