“Hi…”

“Nics! Finally!”

“I can’t come to the phone right now. Please leave a message after the beep.”

“Nics, you’re not replying to my texts. I’m leaving this voicemail just in case. What do you mean you didn’t forget? Do you mean what I think you mean?”

***

“Leave your message after the beep.”

“Hi, Nics. It’s me again. Please check your phone. I’ve been calling you for fifteen minutes now.”

***

“Nics, please. You’re driving me crazy. Kanina pa ako tawag ng tawag.”

***

“Damn it! Answer the fucking phone! Oh no. Nics, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that. Hindi ako galit. It’s just … Please answer my call, Love.”

***

“Nica Mae, please. Just talk to me kahit text lang. I don’t want to assume things. It’s been five years since I know and we’ve only just gotten closer again. I don’t want to be rushing into something you don’t want no matter how bad I want it. Please. Just one text. One text is all I need.”

***

“Nics, I’m sorry. Galit ka na ba?  I’m seriously worried naka-24 missed calls na ako plus more that 32 messages. Just tell me if I can see you at least. Well, I guess I’ll find out anyway. Malapit na ako diyan.”

“Hello?”

“Nics?! Thank God! Finally!”

“Chard, wala ako sa hospital.”

“Wala nga. I just got here. Where are you?”

“Umuwi ako sa condo. Diane, the private nurse we hired came in today siya na nagbabantay kay Barbs. I just really had to go here.”

“Bakit? Anong nangyari?”

“Tumawag si Amor. Umiiyak daw si BenBen, hinahanap ako. Hindi niya mapa-tahan kaya pinuntahan ko na siya agad.”

“Okay, papunta na ako diyan. Please, Nics. Wag kang aalis diyan. Kumusta naman si BenBen? Do you need me to get anything for him?”

“Okay lang ang anak natin, Chard. You don’t need to buy anything. Ingat sa pag-uwi. I’ll wait for you here.”

“I will. Lalo na may mga mahal akong uuwian. Sa wakas, after all these years, Nics.”

“So mag-iiyakan na ba tayo or are you going to come home first?”

“Uuwi na. Uuwi na ako. Can’t wait to see you and ang anak NATIN.”

“Yung diin sa NATIN talaga, eh. Sige na, see you.”

“See you, my love.”
