The summer break was coming to a close. There was just one week left until school started and my anxiety was at an all-time high.

"You should come. It's the end of the year bash. Everyone goes."

Oh. I guess we're talking about a party.

I need to stop zoning out so much.

"Not everyone." Sawyer seemed bored at the thought.

"Come on guys it won't be so bad."

"Nope. The last time I went to a party I ended up in Cole's bed." I said way too nonchalantly for Sawyer's taste because she gave me a surprised look.

"Not like that." I took a bite of my apple, shrugging her off.

Colson and Levi laughed at us, knowing perfectly well what Sawyer thought I meant.

"Sawyer do you not party?" Colson asked curiously.

"I do. Thanks for noticing me at your last party." The eye roll was noted.

Colson bit down on his tongue.

Well that was embarrassing.

Sawyer laughed at his response. "Don't sweat it. I stay pretty low key. But I learned freshman year to skip your back to school shindigs."

"Why's that?" Levi looked offended.

"Because that year the cops broke up the party and a few kids went to jail. The year after that I heard someone almost died drowning in some guys pool. And last year... we'll I don't even want to mention it." She shook her head in disbelief.

"Ohhh what happened last year?" Curiosity is killing this cat.

"Nothing." They all said in unison.

Well then. Just shove this cat out the window.

What could have possibly happened that's worse than getting arrested and almost dying? Maybe someone 'actually' died. That would definitely be worse. Or maybe someone didn't pay their dealer and they came to collect. That would be bad too.

Levi wanted to change the topic and stop my mind wheels from turning, so he went with the first thing that came to mind. "So Sawyer what kind of girls are you into?"

I spit out my drink.

Good thing we're outside in Colson's backyard.

"Don't worry, I don't find it offensive." She was laughing at my reaction.

I don't blame her. I can be quite comical without even trying. Call it an unfortunate gift given to me by my beautiful Mother, Nora.

"I like girls that look like your sister."

It was Colson and Levi's turn to spit out their drinks. I had luckily put down my drink beforehand. However, I did choke on my spit.

These people are trying to kill me.

"Jeez guys, I was joking. I know Olivia's off limits." She winked at Colson, who in turn gave her a confused look.

"In all seriousness though. I don't have a preference. The guys and girls I've dated have all been different."

Oh so she goes both ways. I didn't see that one coming. That explains her reactions to the boys though.

When she said she just broke up with her girlfriend I assumed that meant she batted for the other team. That's why they tell you never to assume.
