12: Picking Fights

"HEY! What's wrong with you!?" A scream resonated through the lunchroom, halting any conversation that might have began between you and the boys around you.

"I SAID I'm sorry, dummy!" You turned and saw a fox being handled roughly by a hyena.

"You stepped on my TAIL, you IDIOT!" The Hyena was irrationally furious. Animals stepped on your tail constantly. It was as long as you were tall and fluffy; irresistible to the feet of others. "With a smirk on your face! Fox scum!"

A growl eminated from the fox.

"Are those stripes on your face or just wrinkles from snarling?" Suddenly the hyena lunged. "OW YOU BASTARD!"

"Hey, he just bit the fox in the arm!"

"Someone get a teacher!"

"Herbivores, stand back."

Chaos ensued and you tried your best to quickly finish your eggs so you could leave. Conflict was not your forte. Diffusing tension was one thing... breaking up fangs was entirely different.

"The fox is choking him!"

"This is bad!"

"I'll let you go if you apologize, stupid hyena!" The fox threatened.

"STOP!" Legoshi's voice stopped all activity in the lunch room. His fangs scared even minor carnivores into submission.

"Uh, what's your problem?" The fox asked, letting go of the hyena and sensing another fight. "You think you can take me out with just one blow because you're so big, huh? Come on, bring it."

"No, no, no, no" Legoshi shook his head, but everyone was looking behind him now. Even you.

"Look at that... It's not easy being a carnivore either, is it?" Louis had appeared and placed a hand on Legoshi, stepping in front of him. "Their personalities and fighting prowess aren't always in alignment."

"Look who's here... Louis." The fox announced. "The favored buck of a super-rich family dynasty."

I wonder if Legoshi and Louis are friends. They are together a lot...

"Baring your fangs is against school rules. if you want to bite each other, do it in the carnivore dorm." Louis had the most powerful aura in the room.

"Hmph. You know, you've got a hard life." The fox was still in a fighting position. "You want to become the next Beastar so badly. But first, you need to gain the trust and respect of every student in the school..."

You had heard of Beastars, of course, but your school back home hadn't had one.

"Hm, the next Beastar? It's not like you guys even stand a chance." Louis looked down at the short carnivores. "Don't be jealous of me. Thank about why this world needs a Beastar and get a hold of yourselves. Pull your pathetic selves together."

"H-huh?!" The fox was taken aback. "You sure know how to rack up points... Go ahead. Be a Beastar or whatever."

"C'mon, let's split." The hyena ironically pulled the fox away.

"I'm glad you two made up. The rest of you can relax and finish your meals now." Louis announced before turning to Legoshi. "I guess I've returned your favor."

"Um, no, I didn't do anything really... But thank you, Louis. If you hadn't stopped us, I would have had to--"

"Pretend you lost the fight, huh?" Louis looked devious. Most students had gone back to eating but your eyes bore into the red deer. "Are you ever going to change your style? Lean into your natural abilities?... I guess I shouldn't underestimate you though. You're more devious than I thought..."

And you are more manipulative than I thought. Your eyes finally returned to your plate. I'll have to watch out for this future Beastar.
