59: Born a Wolf For a (Good) Reason

"Okay, but has anyone seen Legoshi and YN?" The canine room of 701 approached the drama club stage crew.

"Yesterday, he told us, 'Oh, I need to go somewhere tomorrow, so you don't need to worry about me'." the coyote mimicked his voice quite accurately. "Not sure who YN is though."

"Exactly like that!" The Hyena laughed

"Did something happen to him? Do you know?" Jack asked Dom as Kibi waved.

"Well, he's been acting all weird. He went off somewhere during the meteor festival decorating and left behind all his stuff." Dom explained, "And tomorrow's supposed to be the day of the performance!"

"Oh, wow. Well he is't the type to ditch classes or events... I think there should  be a special reason why he isn't here."

"Yes, I think so too." Dom agreed with Jack. "But I want to know what that special reason is..."

"Well, it might be--"

"Sorry, gotta take this." Dom answered his cell phone. "Really? That bitch. Okay, I'm coming right now!" He hung up and looked at the canines. "Sorry, there's trouble literally right now at the meteor. If you find Legoshi, let us know!

"Well, damn, now I'm pretty worried about the guy. He was just here this morning..."

Jack checked out under Legoshi's bed. He had found suspicious things there before... why not check again now?

Instead, he saw a sad sight.

"Oh man! Rhino is dead!" Jack picked up the container with the dead rhinoceros beetle. "He loved this little pet. Picked it up outside some dorm... It made him feel better to help something so small... like he was practicing being kind to herbivores. He said he wanted to find his reason for being born a wolf; why he was born so mismatched with his own personality."

But right now, kind was the last thing Legoshi was and a wolf described him perfectly. He might not understand what it is like being an omnivore, and certainly not an herbivore, but he knew now why he was born a wolf.

"Legoshi!" Your body shook as you pushed yourself to the wall. You couldn't help him. This wasn't a fight between an herbivore and a carnivore. Or even between two small carnivores. It was two apex predators, and the small herbivore within you, shook. My claws are meant for fruit. My fangs aren't even sharp... I could still die here.

Legoshi's scream shook you from the panic briefly.

"This is my first time getting to taste wolf meat." Chief Lion's mouth was dripping with blood. "It's sweet. Lacking in fat.."

"YN! Please! RUN!" Legoshi made eye contact with you.

"I-I can't leave you!" Your voice was on the edge of a full break down. But the last thing you would let happen, not even before death, would be to admit all your lies.

The two tumbled around, landing punches and nips here and there. But Legoshi knew what he needed to do. He couldn't run from this fight. He couldn't leave you behind.

"I probably shouldn't do this in front of you... But I know you won't judge me. One way or another. It's what I was born to do. And I'll use it for good."

"Wha--"

Legoshi launched himself at the chief a final time.

I'm not afraid of anything. Anything except losing you. My claws are for you. My fangs are for you. I am all yours, YN. And as Legoshi's fangs, ripped the throat of the lion, you noticed he moved to spit every piece right back out. I probably look liek a monster to you. And you're free to judge me. I am a gray wolf, as carnivore as they come. He crouched down to you and looked into your eyes. There wasn't a drop of fear. In fact, all he saw, was relief.
