"Legoshi... You hung out with Tem a lot. Do you know anything about this?"
Everyone stared up at the leering wolf.
"L-Legoshi?" The tiger even stuttered, weirded out a bit. "Why don't you come down here?"
Without even a nod of acknowledgement, the wolf shimmied headfirst down a nearby ladder.
"I think... Tem had a lot of regrets..."
You wanted to ask one of your friends if Tem was really friends with this animal. It seemed... unlikely. But then again, he was one of the few that didn't shy away from you when you smiled.
"Ther ewere so many things he hadn't had the chance to do yet..." Legoshi finished, standing hunched over.
"H-How would you know?" A flamingo inquired bravely.
"Any of us would feel that way if we died suddenly... We'd all have some unfinished business." Suddenly, the wolf turned to your friend. "I have a question for you, Els. How do you feel about Tem's death?"
"What? M-Me?" she quaked in her shoes.
"Are you sad?" His eyes burned into hers.
"W-Why are you asking me? I hardly knew him."
Your ears perked up. Why did she lie?
"We all sat together every meal..." You mumbled.
"If they were close, they didn't even talk here." The red panda mentioned back.
And without much else, people started to disperse to their respective sex's changing rooms.
"Els... Els?" You tailed after her quickly.
"What?!" She yelled, "Oh. Sorry."
"We are... we were... all friends. Why did you say you didn't know him?" Your eyes were wide with concern.
"Of course... I'm... sad..." She sniffled. "Why do you all think Legoshi singled me out to ask how I felt about Tem getting killed?"
"Maybe he saw how you two acted..." You mumbled.
"He's a tech crew guy-- they're all weird! He was acting especially weird today though..." The chipmunk replied.
"He frightened me... what was he getting at?" Els kept talking. "He kept staring at me during the meeting... as if I were his prey. Like he was saying 'you're next'! That wolf is a psycho! Just like a meat-eater!"
You were physically taken aback by that statement, feelings profoundly hurt by the all-encompassing statement. As she calmed down and wiped her face, she looked up at you.
"Oh, not you, YN. You're not like the other carnivores. You're different."
"But I'm a meat-eater... even if it's just eggs and just sometimes... how does that make me different?" You dragged your shoe on the ground.
"Probably best not to cause that argument right now." A kind cheetah suggested. "I don't think that's the case, Els. I know everything is wearing on you."
When is the best time? You thought to yourself. Before our friend died? Because it's too late now...
Tears pricked at your eyes as you walked out of the dressing room and sat on a bench near the fountain. You didn't want to go home. Not quite yet.
"Tem... I promise, I'll finish what you couldn't."
You heard that deep, rolling voice from earlier.
"Els..." Another familiar voice, a ring-tailed lemur, spoke to your friend. "Do you feel calmer now? I think you really hurt your friend's feelings."
"Thanks. I'm okay, I'll apologize tomorrow. But what will I do if Legoshi's still acting funny tomorrow?"
"Then we'll talk to him. He'll listen to us. Remember herbivore-carnivore relations? Ask if you have a question. Assuming is how fights happen. It's good to be cautious, but you're being a little paranoid."
"You think so?" Els asked with a sigh. "I guess you're right. Legoshi has no reason to target me. And he's always been kind of awkward... I guess I do worry too much. And I did go a little too far..."
"I'll see you tomorrow, Els. You can always drop by our room if you feel anxious again. We prosimians will cheer you up!"
Els giggled and said goodbye. However, it wasn't long until she turned and headed back into the drama club room. And Legoshi followed her.
