40: Meeting With Louis

You stood in front of Louis' door in the actor's club room.

"I don't think you're in trouble... maybe he just wants to get to know you." Ellen smiled weakly, trying to think of an excuse for why Louis demanded your presence today.

"Be careful in there, Wolfy..." Bill leaned towards you. "He's dangerous."

"Don't be worried." Legoshi's voice rang out above the rest. "Louis calls me in his office a lot and I never know why before. Usually, he just wants help with something."

"Thanks, guys." You smiled. "I'm not scared of him."

You opened the door and closed it behind you, seeing the deer sitting in a plush chair.

"You should be." Louis responded to your statement. "Especially now."

You sighed and scratched your foot on the ground.

"I know I should never have touched her and I know you said if there was any drama that I'd be moved to equipment  duty in the club room..." You muttered. "So I'm okay with that."

"You are apologizing for helping me?" Louis looked at you curiously. "Strange wolf."

"I didn't correct you two yesterday because it seemed kind of awkward, but I'm not actually a wolf..." You started the spiel. "I'm a maned wolf, which isn't a wolf, fox, or whatever. I'm my own genus and I don't behave like other canidae. I'm an omnivore. But I mostly eat fruits and vegetables. I only have eggs every so often..."

"I would have preferred that Juno eat me alive rather than Legoshi or Bill." He had a blank look in his eyes that made you nervous. Like he was hiding all emotions. "She's a female wolf. Not once did she bare her fangs to me. I know, hard to believe with a female as greedy as her, that she wouldn't rely on intimidation."

"I'm not sure if greedy is the right word for her..."

"Her greed comes from extreme confidence. She has good looks, a good societal position and is trying to attain a good partner. Without me as Beastar, she'd have an even better societal position. And she knows no better about Legoshi. Not like you or I know." Louis patted the chair in front of him with his hoof.

You took a seat, politely. "I don't know Legoshi very well. If you're referring to all the teasing everyone does to me constantly, it's just that; teasing. I don't have an interest in him outside of simply getting to know a fellow stage crew member."

"See, you aren't manipulative like Juno. You aren't lying to me because you want to get something. You're doing it because you don't want to admit it to yourself..." Louis chuckled. "I admire it a bit. I also admit that I didn't have an impression of you until last night. That's a skill as well, to be a fly on the wall. Unfortunately for you, however, San is one of my closest friends. And apparently you run in his herd for some reason."

"Els and Ellen were the first people to be nice to me." You spoke freely about that. It was no secret.

"Show me your fangs." Louis suddenly demanded.

You smiled and Louis laughed again.

"'Show me your fangs' is not 'smile for me'." He rolled his eyes. "No wonder San enjoys your presence. Innocent."

"This school doesn't understand the difference between fangs and teeth..." You grumbled. "Don't bare your fangs to herbivores means smile without any teeth normally, so I figured you wanted to see my teeth now."

"Why would I care?" Louis felt a lightness on his shoulders. He liked talking to you. It reminded him of Haru.

"Uh, I don't know, if you wanted me to talk to people or be an actress or something to make sure I don't have rotted teeth?"
