13: Sewing

"I didn't know Ellen was the lead female!" You smiled to Els as you quietly watched the rehearsal.

"Yeah, she normally just dances, but Louis thought that her attitude was perfect." Els nodded.

"It is." You laughed. "But I feel kind of bad for not helping. Are you sure I can't do anything?"

"Can you sew?" Fudge's voice rang out behind you.

"Fudge!" You turned and looked at the red panda. "Uh, yeah. I'm pretty good with needles."

"How small-town." Pina teased you as you pushed his arm.

"Come back with us and help make the costumes.  We're good at sewing, but there's just a lot to do." Fudge smiled. "Goes for anyone who wants to help."

Els and Pina shrugged and shook their heads. They had zero skill in that area. "Okay, I'll go!"Your reply was chipper.

"Get that wolf, baby," Pina whispered to you as you pushed his arm again with a grumble.

The design team was sitting in a group by the backstage door. Kibi, an anteater, Kai, Dom and Legoshi were all carefully sewing.

"I brought reinforcements," Fudge announced. "Hope that's okay, Dom. She said she knew her way around a needle."

"Honestly, I'll take anyone at this point. Who knew that it would take so long to hand make twenty costumes..." Dom hung his head down.

Kibi laughed at this, "Uh, everyone?"

"Louis gets stressed out before every performance. He sounds kind of annoyed that Sanu called a break." Fudge sat down, handed you a costume with sewing marks laid out on it, and got back to work.

"Since when do we take breaks at all?" Dom inquired.

"I don't know what happened really..." Legoshi's eyes pierced your body, making you squirm in your spot. What was he thinking, staring at you like that? You didn't think you looked particularly strange; you had the same uniform on as other females.

"So, YN, I never got to ask you any questions about yourself." Dom didn't look at you, but his curiosity seemed genuine. "I hope you don't take this offensively, but like, what animal are you?"

"Maned wolf." Legoshi cocked his head to the side.

"Oh! So you're kind of like Legoshi!" Kibi tried to add to the conversation.

"No." You and Legoshi responded at the same time.

"She's her own genus." Legoshi wanted to lower his eyes; they felt predatory and intimidating. It made your body warm. "Canid, yes, but otherwise we aren't similar."

"I'm an omnivore. But more plants than protein." You explained. "Like Fudge."

"Omnivores for life!" Fudge laughed. "Uh... Legoshi... you're not even sewing anything."

Legoshi looked down and noted he was making the motions, but indeed not sewing.

"Oh, duh."
