21: Dark Secrets

"Drama Club members, please enter the auditorium!" The principal announced at the assembly. "Having successfully overcome the barriers between species and having performed admirably in many competitions... You have greatly contributed to the success of Cherryton Academy!"

Louis, followed by Ellen and the rest of the cast of Adler, quickly filed onto the stage. There wasn't enough room for all of drama club, but certainly for the most popular students.

You were glad you weren't up there, however. What would one do while Louis spoke? Nod and look out at the crowd? You felt nauseous just thinking about it.

"Coexistence and co-prosperity..."Louis began his speech. "Are of the upmost importance! That's what we will continue to represent to you on the stage. The first performance of our play to welcome new students will be the day after tomorrow. I hope you all can make it."

With a  bow, the audience exploded into applause, before eventually being granted their release. It was time for practice.

"Pina, what have you been doing? I finished up the costumes and now I don't have anything left to do... And honestly, I don't feel like being teased today." You had a down look on your face.

"Uh, taking advantage of my surroundings and the beautiful women of the drama club; that's what." He looked over at you pitifully. "Don't be upset. We tease you because we all like you. Imagine if instead, no one spoke a word to you."

Your ears flattened and you pouted.

"Yeah, that's way worse."

"These are special animals you know... Not only do you need a recommendation from another member, but you have to be approved by the director. Sometimes the director will just recruit people too. But he's kind of... weird about it."

"Weird? What do you mean?" You sat next to him and looked at him very directly. If he hadn't known you, it might have been uncomfortable.

"Sheila the cheeetah, head of the dance team was fourteen and destitute. She worked as a dominatrix at the carnivore girls' club. That's when she got scouted. Mina the giraffe has trypophobia-- can't even look at herself in the mirror. Moro the rhino suffers from the delusion that his horn is his guardian angel. Kai the mongoose's parents abandoned him at birth and he was raised by hyena. I could go on..." Pina looked at you pitifully. "I know you aren't one for gossip, but every member of the drama club has serious issues. Only beasts who have been deeply traumatized are invited to join the drama club."

"I'm not--"

"You were only friends with herbivores. Before that, you belonged no where, am I right?" Pina hit the nail on the head with his observation.

"Yeah... I guess... But that's nothing compared to other people."

"The underlying purpose of our club is to channel our life experience into our work. The Drama Club is always in the public eye, but it's full of dark secrets. And that means..."

"Legoshi has a dark secret too!" You put a hand to your mouth. "And even Louis."

"San knows Louis's secret." Pina confirmed, "But as for Legoshi... I don't think anyone knows."

Your eyes drifted up towards the lights, where Legoshi was hiding.

"So if you figure it out... let me know" The Dall Sheep smiled, a bit twistedly. "It's something I have a lot of interest in."
