54: Legoshi's Shining Moment; Courtesy of Louis' Low One

"LOUIS!! Louis!" Legoshi grabbed Louis harshly. "Oh, thank goodness... I finally found you. YN was abducted! The, um, shishiumi or whatever, they're the ones responsible! You have to save her!"

"YN? I've never heard of such a student... Please don't spread scary stories around campus like this..." Louis looked away and began to walk. He couldn't do this right now.

"What? WHAT are you SAYING?! You need to save her!"

"If there was anyone to save, and I insist that there isn't, you can save them by yourself, if you're so concerned."

"But... I've seen you both lately... I talked to San... Aren't you in love with her? She loves you too, you know?"

CRACK

Louis' fist connected hard enough with Legoshi's face to spin his head 180 degrees.

"Don't act like you know everything about me!! You're just a clumsy wolf who pretends to be a nobody! You don't know a damn thing about me or her. It's not me. It's never been me... And it's too late now!" I need to fool myself. I can't let it all out. I need to bring myself back under control. Louis took deep breaths to calm himself down. "I cannot break the city's peace for one life. We need to maintain peace, even if it's fake and superficial and wrong and stupid. You embody those words. You hide your power and your feelings from everyone around you, including yourself. You lie to the animals around you so you can fit in. You think dating an herbivore will make you less threatening? Haru will fuck you, no problem. But the only one who loved you is gone and never existed anymore. Use your power to do something about that."

"Fine." Legoshi's face had gone primal. Louis felt his heart race and his body freeze, like the herbivore he was. "If that's how it's gonna be, then I'll show you my true power." Sweat dripped nervously down Louis' face as Legoshi pulled back his fist. "I'll show you my anger at the group who has her. My anger at you for refusing to help your own friend. My anger at myself, for being more stupid than you, even."

Louis felt himself flying down the steps before he even registered the pain in his eye.

But Legoshi wasn't done. He felt some concern, some regret for hitting him so hard, but when he went down to check on the deer, he earned a powerful kick in the gut. He couldn't stop himself and his fist flew at the deer again.

"Louis." He spoke as predators around them moved to separate them. "Why can't someone as self-sufficient as you, save the life of one girl? Why are you venting your anger at me when you could be helping her?! You're supposed to be the beastar?! Pathetic. If you can't solve this problem your way, then I can't and won't rely on you." He was still in an attacking position, but both had calmed down enough to stand alone. "If you want to sacrifice her to rise to the top, then I won't stop you. But know this." Louis lost the will to fight. Legoshi knew exactly what was happening. "Your rejection of her... your refusal to admit that she even existed... it means that when I save her. When I come back to Cherryton with YN... She is mine. And you will never touch her again."

Legoshi dashed off. He had to get you. He had to protect you. And not because you were pack; because he loved you most of all.

The other animals called to stop him, but Louis held up a hand.

"No. Just leave him be. Let him have his way..." Louis closed his eyes in humiliation. At least someone has the guts to save her. I'm counting on you.
