[Emma's POV]
School was excruciating. Hayden and Mallory hung on me all day, but all I wanted was to be alone. I think it's better to have no friends than fake ones.
I hopped in my white Jeep Wrangler and sped to Starbucks right after the last bell. I had to get away from those two. I blasted country music from my speakers to the whole world. It was loud and everyone could hear because my hard top was off.
I arrived at Starbucks to see that Isabella was already inside. I grabbed my laptop and ran in to her table.
"Hey! I heard you coming from a mile away!" She joked as I sat down.
"Oh no! Was it that loud?" I pretended to fall for it. She just laughed. "I'm gonna go get some coffee. Want anything?"
"No, I'm good. Thanks though." I nodded and went up to get a Dark Chocolate Mocha.
I sat back down and opened my laptop. "Let's get this party started!" We both giggled and got to work, taking notes on whatever seemed helpful.
_____It was now just past 5 o'clock, meaning we had been here for almost 2 hours. I yawned. Apparently the coffee didn't help.
"Well, I'm ready to be done. Too much school." She started packing up her things.
"You can say that again." I copied her actions.
"Well, I'm ready to be done. Too much school." I giggled and rolled my eyes. We headed out the door to talk so we wouldn't annoy the others in the coffee shop.
"I think we're done with research. Should we pickup supplies tomorrow after school?"
"Yeah that sounds good. Should we meet at Home Depot?"
"Oh no Isabella! I can give you a ride if you'd like."
"That'd be great!" She leaned in for a hug. It surprised me but I quickly hugged back. "See you tomorrow Em!" She walked off to her house which was only a few blocks away. Em. I liked that nickname. Much, much better than Eminem. "Oh and you can call me Isa!" She yelled as I got in my Jeep.
"Bye Isa!"
_______I arrived at my huge house. Yes, my parents are rich, which also adds to the impression that I'm stuck up. But they raised me right. I'm not too spoiled, well, I guess I am. But I don't take my blessings or them for granted.
I walked in and set my keys down on the counter. "Hey sweetie," my dad came and kissed my forehead. "Where've ya been?"
"I was at Starbucks with my friend Isabella. We have a science project we're working on." I plopped a few strawberries in my mouth.
"Hey don't eat too much. Dinner's in less than an hour." He warned. I nodded and went upstairs to my room. I was aching to get out of this terrible outfit.
I exchanged my high waisted jeans, white tube top, and jean jacket for leggings and a cropped hoodie. There. Finally comfy. I hopped on my bed and got started on other my other homework, hoping I could finish it before dinner.
_____"Emma Lynn!" I heard my mom call. "Dinner!" She was home from another long day at work, as it was almost 7. I ran down the stairs starved from using my brain.
"Hey mom!" I hugged her from behind.
"Well someone's in a good mood." She giggled and set the lasagna down on the table.
"Yep! I made a new friend today!" I helped bring the salad to the table. She grabbed the dressing.
"John! Dinner!" She turned to me after calling my dad. "You can tell us all about it at the table."
We sat down and my dad came. My mom dished the food and I dug in right away.
"Emma! Slow down you're going to get indigestion." My mom was always worried about my health and eating habits. It was annoying but she's my mom, what can I do? I took a break from eating and argued back.
"Mom I'm seventeen." I put emphasis on 'seventeen'. "I know how to eat. My dad changed the subject quickly.
"Tell is about Isabella."
I turned from my mom to him and started describing her.
"Her name is Isabella Medrano Rivera. She's really nice and sweet. She's the captain of the volleyball team and she likes hugs."
"She sounds really nice!" My mom added to the conversation.
"Can I bring her over either tomorrow or the next day? We have a project to work on."
"Sure honey. You never bring any of your friends over."
'That's because they're not actually my friends.' I thought in my head. But I just nodded in agreement.
We finished up dinner with a little conversation here or there. I was stuffed by the time we cleared the table.
"I'm gonna go watch a movie in my room mom."
"Don't stay up to late." She yelled up the stairs after me. I settled on the movie Ant Man. I loved that movie. It was hilarious but also suspenseful.
_________I was about halfway through the movie when I got interrupted by a FaceTime call from Hayden and Mallory. I declined and said I was busy watching a movie with my parents. I mean, it was sort of the truth. I didn't want them to see me without makeup and a fancy outfit and all that jazz.
________________It was 11:30 and the movie had just ended. I picked up my lonely guitar and played a few chords, finally settling on playing Cinderella by Stephen Curtis Chapman. Yes I know it's an old song, but I want it played at my wedding for my daddy/daughter dance. It calmed me. I loved to dance with my dad when I was little, so this song brought back good memories of a time when things weren't so complicated and I didn't care about anything. I fell asleep listening to that song over and over. Dreaming of my big day.
________________________________________________________________And that ladies and gentlemen is chapter 2! I made it 1000 words but it's getting longer with this A/N but whatever. It makes me happy when you do! And please lemme know if they're a any typos or something doesn't make sense!
