[Emma's POV]

"No! I don't want to go to school." I extended the letters of the last words of each sentence. My dad and Chrissy had enrolled me in an LA highschool for my senior year. After what happened at my birthday party, I didn't want to go to school anymore.

I had spent my summer in LA in the pool, or at the beach. I had a spectacular tan, and my hair started to become sun bleached. I had freckles over my nose and cheeks.

"Yes you're going to school." My dad pulled me out of bed, and I landed on the hard wooden floor. I groaned, as he left the room, but finally decided to get up.

In my dresser, I found a pair of black jean shorts. They had rips in them, and I paired the shorts with a white and black striped tank top, which was cropped. Had to make a good impression for the first day, right?

I didn't put make up on today, and left my hair in it's natural beach waves. I paired my outfit with high top black vans, and a few necklaces. I slipped on a ring that Daniel had given me, a few weeks after we started dating. It was formed in the shape of a small rose, and I wore it everywhere.

I still missed him, and hadn't even started to move on yet. I missed his tooth gap smile, his laugh, his beautiful ocean eyes. I just missed him.

After making my morning coffee in my espresso machine, I left the huge house and walked to my black Jeep. A backpack was waiting, and I left my home without second thought.

At school, I took a deep breath, as I watched all the teens gather around their friends, excited to be in a new grade with new teachers and new classes. I was probably the only one not excited.

I stopped at the front office to collect my schedule, and a map of the school. It was definitely bigger than Pearson High in Portland, but this was LA, it was expected. I wandered through the buzzing halls and stopped at my locker, throwing my bag in it. I locked it.

I took a peak at my schedule, finding my first class, calculus. I rolled my eyes. I never liked math, even though I was good at it. Walking up a flight of stairs, I turned the corner and found the classroom. There were a few students there already. Two girls were talking, and others weren't being social.
______________

My second class was English. Again, there were only like five students in there. I chose a spot at the back, hoping not to be called on when class started. I pulled out my phone, with its olive green case, and went on Instagram. I was still following all my old friends, and they were still following me.

The first few weeks after I left, I got at least 20 missed calls from each of the nine of them everyday. Eventually, the calling and texting died down because I hadn't responded to any of them.

Soon, the warning bell rang, and more students came into the English classroom. The teacher hadn't arrived yet, which was typical.

Loud voices came from the hall, definitely male. Three boys came into the room, and sat down in the back, near me. The trio were definitely bad boys, with many chains, blacked out clothes, piercings, and sunglasses. They were tossing around cigarettes to each other, probably to share behind the school later.

The only closest, turned and looked at me, after his friend pointed me out. This one was obviously the leader of the group. He came over to me, and sat on top of the desk, way too close for comfort.

"Hey. You're new huh?" He asked, in a soft voice, but I didn't let it fool me. I just nodded and continued looking though Instagram. Maybe he would go away if I ignored him. "I'm Nate." He paused, waiting for me to say something. "What's your name?" Finally I looked up at him.

"Emma." I rolled my eyes, still trying to ignore him.

"Well Emma, want to come over tonight? We could have some fun." I could tell he was wiggling his eye brows and had a smirk on his lips.

"I'm good." He looked me up and down, licking his lips. He did move to the desk next to me though, but only to put his hand on my thigh.

"Oh come on, you know you want to." Nate said, squeezing my leg. I quickly pulled away, but he just returned his hand to the same spot.

"Nate Provg. I swear if you don't leave her alone, I will personally make sure your life is miserable." A girl with dirty blonde hair and green eyes walked up to us after entering the class room. He quickly removed his hand, and left. Those two obviously had a past.

The girl sat down in the seat he was previously occupying, and another girl, sat down in front of me.

"Sorry about him." The first girl apologized. "He's just, him." She rolled her eyes. I hummed in response and she stuck out a hand for me to shake. "Eliza Chang." She introduced herself. I set down my phone and shook it.

"Emma Wood." She nodded after I replied.

"And that's Amelia Summers, my best friend." Eliza pointed to the girl in front of me. I nodded with a small smile towards Amelia.

"Hi." I spoke quietly.

"So where are you from?" Eliza asked, leaning against her desk.

"Portland, Oregon." I answered.

"Oh cool! Why'd you move?" She asked another question.

"Just stuff." I shifted in my seat, beginning to become uncomfortable.

"Oh sorry. Probably should've have asked that." The girl let out a nervous laugh. Amelia giggled too.

"It's ok." I laughed along, while shrugging it off.

"Want to sit with us at lunch? Since you're new?" Eliza offered.

"Yeah. I'd like that." I nodded.
