[Emma's POV]

I can't believe I agreed to Zach's plan. I did not want to give Bryan any false ideas. Besides, Faith would probably want to kill me after this, but at least we could explain it to her.

I sighed and ran my hand through my long brown hair. It needed to be cut sometime soon. My phone dinged and I received a text from Ellie.

"Emma Lynn Wood!" My mom called from downstairs. "Dinner's ready!"

"Coming!" I shouted back. It was just me and her. My dad had already left for LA. He left on Saturday in his Range Rover with a moving van following. It's Thursday, so five whole days without him.

Sunday was terrible. I laid in my bed basically all day crying. Ellie came over and watched Netflix with me, as it's her favorite thing to do. Faith was busy with Bryan, of course, and Lottie and Isa stopped by for a few hours too.

"What are we having for di-" I paused when I saw who was sitting at our table. It was my math teacher, Mr. Hansen. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw him. Sure, he was a great math teacher, but why was he here at my house?

"Hi Emma." He said and stood up to greet me.

"Hi Mr. Hansen." I hesitated.

"Sweetie, I invited him over for dinner. I thought it would be nice to have a guest." My mom guided me from my frozen position to the table. Chicken Alfredo fettuccine was already on the table. I sat down in my usual spot, Mr. Hansen to my right and my mom on the other side, as it was a square table.

There was some conversation at the table, but mostly between my mom and Mr. Hansen. It was awkward to say the least. Shortly after we finished dinner, my math teacher left.

"Ok you have to explain." I scolded my mom almost immediately after he walked out the door and drove away.

"Well it's a long story." She seemed like she didn't want to tell it.

"I've got plenty of time." I said crossing my arms. We walked into the kitchen and started her story.

"So a few months ago, do you remember when I picked you up for lunch during school?" I nodded in answer. "Well Mike was in the front office when I went to sign you out." Oh, they're on a first name basis. "He introduced himself, and wondered if we could have coffee or dinner sometime. I, of course, said yes as he was handsome and kind."

"Did Dad know?" If she had done this behind my dad's back, I would be furious.

"Yes, he found out after. But."
