-chapter 11-

[Emma's POV]

I managed to avoid Mallory and Hayden on the way to lunch. I needed to talk to Daniel and I also wanted to sit with my true friends.

Rushing to the bathroom right after my last class, I hid there until I was sure they had left. The halls were empty as I walked to the cafeteria. Mallory and Hayden saw me as I entered the room and motioned for me to come sit with them. I ignored their gestures and spotted an empty chair at Daniel's table.

He was talking to all of them and the quintet didn't notice when I sat down. I cleared my throat and they paused their conversation and saw me.

"Oh. Um hi Emma." Daniel was surprised.

"Hey." I replied.

"These are my friends, Jack, Corbyn, Zach, and Jonah." He pointed to each in turn. Zach was the first to speak up.

"Why are you sitting with us," he motioned to the boys, "and not Mallory and Hayden?"

I laughed as Jack smacked him on the head. Jonah tolled his eyes and mumbled something as Daniel gave me an apologetic look. 

"It's totally fine." I giggled. "They're a little much during lunch. And just all day really." I shrugged not wanting to go into it.

"Oh." Corbyn replied.

"Anyway. Daniel. I have absolutely no ideas for what song we should do." I turned my attention towards him. "Do you?"

"I was actually thinking that we could write our own.

"Yeah that sounds like a great id-" I was cut off as someone tapped my shoulder. I assumed it was Hayden and looked that way. I wasn't met with anything.

I felt a presence beside me and turned to see Lottie giggling at me.

"Gotcha Ermo." I rolled my eyes at her childlike behavior. Isabella, Faith, and Ellie all sat down in empty spots at the round table.

"These are my best friends." Said draping my arms over the shoulders of Charlotte and Ellie, as they were next to me. "Ellie, Charlotte, Isabella and Faith." I pointed like Daniel has done earlier. "And that's Zach, Corbyn, Jonah, Jack, and Daniel." I pointed at them as well.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Isa and Lottie nudge each other when their crush was mentioned. I also noticed Jack was staring at Elle. Faith and Jonah shook hands and they're touch connected for longer than a normal handshake.

The bell rang after a few minutes and I got up along with the rest of the group. I slowed my pace to avoid Hayden and Mallory again.

"If you're planning on dating my best friend," I heard a voice say. I turned and saw Corbyn. "I'm going to need to approve of you first."

I laughed at him but he was completely serious.
"Ok Corbyn. Well. First of all, I don't plan on dating Daniel. We're just friends because of a project. That's all. Second, why would you need to approve?"

"A few year ago Daniel was dating a girl named Parker. She cheated on him and his heart was broken. I am not going to let anyone do that to him again." He explained.
