Hired or Fired?

If there is such a thing as fate, then we will meet again 

'I'm so dead'

Standing at the centre of the room, Ji Eun was weighing her options on whether she should just bear with the embarrassment or run out of the interview, take the bus home and jump into bed hoping it was all just a bad dream.

"Why did it have to be me?" she said underneath her breath

The strange guy that caught her who has now identified to be the president of this company took a seat in the middle of the room and was now looking like he was having much fun watching her squirm in her seat. He had a big smirk plastered on his face which ticked her off.

" Okay Miss Lee Ji Eun, judging by your resume it seems you had great grades all through high school and was even categorized in the top 1% for Languages. May I ask why did you not further your studies?"

That question was expected. All the interviews that she went to had interviewers that asked the same question. She didn't really know how to answer without sounding so pitiful. What was she to say?  Should she tell them that after her father passed away when she was 9 years old, her mother had to work 3 jobs to support them to pay the rent on time? Should she tell them that after she had completed high school she did various part-time jobs in order to save up money so she could pay off the rent before they got evicted? All the reasons sounded so pitiful no matter how it was twisted with the words.

She looked up and saw President Jeon looking at her and everyone else staring at her blank face, awaiting an answer. As soon as she took a deep breath to answer it, she got interrupted.

"Hire her," President Jeon said while standing up

"She hasn't answered our questions yet and we have 5 more applicants, we can't just ---" the guy who asked her why she didn't further her studies argued.

" I said, Hire Her. I take it you understand English?" President Jeon said and his eyes flickered to Ji Eun. " I want her to work straight away, tell manager Park to hand over the files to her," then he left the room.

The interviewers threw everyone's application into the bin and began standing up, leaving the room.

" Go to the 14th floor, President Jeon's office is there and there is where your table will be. There will be an intern helping you as in collecting your employee card and filing your bank statements. Welcome to Daebok Group Secretary Lee!" he said smiling before leaving the room

Ji Eun bowed before going up to the 14th floor. The lift said " President Floor"

She had mixed emotions. She was absolutely thrilled because finally she had a job and the pay was tremendous but she was also kind of worried. What if the president just did this as a joke? Ji Eun  was still in deep thought when she heard someone cleared their throat behind her

"Hello! You must be the new secretary, I'm your intern or you can say your personal assistant for this month. The interns here switch departments every month you see. Here is your employee card. You don't have to pay for the food here just show them your card and take your meal! You are allowed to use all the state of the art facilities here such as the Olympic sized swimming pool and the fitness studio. There is also a gaming room on level 3 if you are interested! The most important place to go when you are stressed would be the garden on the rooftop. Well, your desk is right before the president's room if you would just take a couple of steps forward," a girl with glasses said while pointing towards a large white desk with a silver plate that had her name written on it.

"Yes of course. I'm so sorry. This is all very new to me," She said while walking towards the new desk. Her fingers touched the cold, silver plate that had her name engraved on it. 

'Secretary Lee Ji Eun' 

She felt ecstatic. her name, on a plate, on a silver plate! Ji Eun quickly wore her new employee card around her neck and sat down in the comfortable white chair. The desk was empty and the walls behind the desk had racks screwed into the walls but the rack itself didn't hold any books. She made a mental note to bring over some language books and some snacks for herself.

The intern or should she say her assistant looked at her and proceeded to say, "This is a book that lists down all the departments and what floors are on. My phone number is also written there so please don't hesitate to ask for help. Welcome to Daebok Group!" she bowed before she turned to take the lift down.

"Secretary Lee Ji Eun," said a voice. She looked up to see a man dressed in a black suit and a black watch. He was holding a thick file and around 3 books that looked awfully heavy.

He let it fall on her desk with a loud SLAM 

He dusted his hands off before introducing himself, "My name is Se Jin, Park Se Jin but I am known to everyone as Manager Park or Manager Se Jin. I manage international businesses for Daebok Group and I am also President Jeon's personal adviser on many matters. I used to handle his phone calls and local meetings as well but now that he has finally hired a new secretary, I won't need to do that anymore" he said

He then leaned dangerously close to me and said in the fastest pace it made it seemed as if he were rapping, "You will be handling internal matters, meetings, President Jeon's lunch and dinner if he chooses to have it, phone calls, emails, voice mails and you have to follow him to every meeting to jot down notes for future reference. You also have to tell him his schedule every morning even if he says he knows. The most important task of all is if Miss Lee Yu Mi calls, you have to always say that president Jeon is unavailable,"  

"Do you understand me?" he asked raising one eyebrow.

"Lee Yu Mi? As in the famous announcer Lee Yu Mi? Why would he ignore her?" She asked curiously

"You do not need to know that.Just make an excuse and hang up," he said

He looked around the desk area 

" Do whatever you want to this area just don't paint anything or stick anything onto the wall. Well then, goodbye," he said and turned sharply to enter the lift.

That was so much information in so little time.

'Will I be able to do this?' she asked herself
