You never meant to hurt me but you left me in scars
"Annyeonghaseyeo!" the voices inside the red bean shop call out.
The shop always had that warm ambience about it.
"Just sit down," Jungkook said to Tae Oh keeping a firm hold on his shoulders which Tae Oh shrugged off. He glanced over, his eyes glaring at the lady that was facing her back to him, probably preparing the traditional meal for the customers. The glaring eyes were enough to burn a hole in her back.
"Move," Jungkook said sternly pushing Tae Oh forward to their usual seat by the huge blocks of windows made of pure glass, where he always admired the beautiful sky . The sky right now looked beautiful and sunny but in Tae Oh's heart it was all gloomy and confused. He felt like a 5-year-old child again.
Tae Oh sat down and turned his head to the right, avoiding Jungkook's gaze
"Ahjumma!, Can we get two bowls of hot red bean porridge with coffee please,?"
"Tea," Tae Oh said
"Add on one tea!" Jungkook instantly continued
"Arraso!" The ahjumma yelled out.
'Ahjumma,' He couldn't call her that. 'Omma,' He couldn't call her that either.
"Is that what you call a surprise?" Tae Oh mumbled as his eyes constantly glanced towards the lady in the red apron scooping steaming hot red bean porridge.
"You said you wanted to find her, do you regret it now? Why are you acting so awkward?" Jungkook asked.
"Well what do you want me to do? I haven't seen my mother in 15 years. My memory of her is so blurry that I can't even remember her face. We have been here countless times, why is that you decided to break it to me today? Did you think I would thank you, is that it?" Tae Oh yelled
The buzzing noise of the small store came to a halt. Everyone turned their heads towards their table as normal people would. Being nosy is human.
"I don't understand why you did it," Tae Oh finished softly.
Tae Oh should be happy and excited. He finally found his mother after a whole 15 years of being away from her. Why was he angry instead of happy? It was probably because Hyung had never mentioned it to him before or it was because all his past memories and pent up anger towards his mother was finally being lashed out. That was it. He was angry at her, the woman he called 'omma,' not because she didn't even try to find him but because she abandoned him. She said she loved him but she left him.
Want to know how to break a person's heart?
Tell them you love them and never speak to them again.
"Two red bean porridge, 1 coffee and 1 tea," She said as she placed the tray on the table serving them. She placed additional kimchi infront of him and smiled at him with twinkling eyes that he couldn't help but smile back.
"Tae Oh, I heard from Jungkook its your birthday today. Hold on let me get some seaweed soup," She said and rushed to the back of the kitchen again.
"Be nice," Jungkook said to Tae Oh
"I am nice...until something triggers me," He said and picked up his spoon scooping up some porridge and slowly chewed on it. The flavors then hit him. He finally realized why he cried every time he ate the porridge, it wasn't just because it was the day his family abandoned him but it was the exact porridge his mother had made for him after the trip.
-FLASHBACK-
"Omma, I'm back!" Tae Oh ran up to his mother to give her a big hug
"Aigo, you look so tired. What would you like to eat?" His mother asked ruffling his brown hair.
"Omma, I want red bean porridge!"
"Again? You had it three times this week! How about kimbap?"
"No! Please?" Tae Oh pulled the cutest face ever and he felt his eyes starting to hurt and he heard chuckling coming from the back of him
"Honey, just make him some porridge before his eyes actually come out of his eye sockets from acting cute all the time," His father said.
"APPA!" Tae Oh ran towards his dad
His dad picked him up and placed him onto his shoulders.
"Alright, alright! I'll make some red bean porridge!"
"Yay!" Tae Oh yelled out.
"How is it?" His mother asked as he placed a spoonful of hot porridge into his mouth, burning his tongue in the process.
"Warm!" Tae Oh responded and pulled a funny face
Jungkook Hyung took a sip from his coffee before asking, "How is it?"
"Warm," Tae Oh replied as he felt a tear drop roll down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away hoping Jungkook didn't noticed.
"Seaweed soup for the birthday boy!" Cheon Song Yi ahjumma said happily.
"She then sat down next to him and handed him the soup
Tae Oh then decided to ask, "Do you have a son?" he blurted out
"Yes, I do. He is the most handsome young boy," She smiled
"Where is he?" He then asked again feeling like he was about to explode
"I lost him when he was very young. The last I heard, he was adopted by a rich family overseas,"
"Is his name Kim Tae Oh?" He finally said.
Cheon Song Yi looked at him then at Jungkook
"Sorry Ahjumma, its time he knew," Jungkook said calmly and proceeded to stand up and turning to walk out of the stall. It was time they met and talked like a mother and a son should.
