"Ugh! Why did he have to tie such a good knot?" Sophie complained as she struggled to break free.
Shortly after Sophie had ran into the woods, she had been captured by surprise and was tied up to a tree, along with Grady. Grady had been caught before she was. Sophie almost fainted when she realized that the guy that had captured her and Grady was Hank from the FBI. She couldn't believe it. But at the moment, Sophie had to focus on breaking herself and Grady free, so they could save Keefe, but they were having no such luck.
Grady sighed. "This is my fault. I should have waited for you before I ran off to find Keefe. Now I got us captured."
"Dad, it's not your fault. I would've done the same thing. Now let's focus on setting us free."
"How? The rope is tied well and it's too thick to bite through."
"I don't know," Sophie said.
They were stuck.
Who knows what was happening to Keefe? If they didn't escape soon, it might be too late to save Keefe—
She shut that thought down.
"What if we—" Sophie started, but stopped when she heard footsteps nearby. "Do you hear that?" She whispered to Grady.
"Yeah," Grady replied. The footsteps were coming closer.
Sophie snapped her head in different directions, but there was no sight of anyone.
"Sophie?" A familiar voice asked.
"TAM! We're here! My dad and I are tied up," she yelled.
"Do you know that kid?" Grady asked.
"Yeah, he's my friend."
Tam then came up from behind them. "Woah, what's going on?" He asked, his face paling.
"First untie us please! Then we'll explain," Sophie said.
"Okay..." Tam looked around and then pulled a knife from his pocket.
"Do you carry that around with you all the time?" Sophie asked.
"Yeah, got a problem with it?"
"Mr. Tam, you are very smart! Some people don't listen when I tell them to carry a weapon!" Grady said, glancing at Sophie.
"There is a difference between a baseball bat and a knife dad!" Sophie said.
"Whatever," Grady said, rolling his eyes.
Tam glanced between them, looking confused. He then shrugged and started to cut the rope.
When the rope was cut and Sophie was free, she jumped up and gasped.
Freedom felt so good!
"Thanks Tam," Sophie said.
"Okay, now what happened?" Tam asked.
Sophie then explained to him the threats that were being held against her from some secret organization and how their trademark were flames. She then explained how they stabbed Edaline and killed Lady Galvin and how her, Keefe, and Grady had decided to go to her house to find clues. Sophie then explained that somehow her dead parents were tied into this all and when they were in Lady Galvin's house, she figured out that Lady Galvin used to work with her parents and knew about some experiment that her parents made that was never patented. She also shared how she found diagrams and a locked box and while that happened, Keefe was taken away and when her and Grady went to find Keefe, they were tied to a tree by an FBI agent she met before named Hank.
