"What?" Sophie gasped, taking a step back.
"It's not what it looks like," Keefe said taking a step forward. "Let me explain."
"Fine, explain."
Keefe took a deep breath. "So, I ditched first period today right? Because that's what I love to do—"
"Get to the point," Sophie demanded.
"Feisty I see, alright. So, that's the period where Lady Galvin dropped the test tube and left right?" Keefe asked. Sophie nodded.
"Well, today I decided to hang out in a dark hallway today and when the period was almost over, I heard two voices. I recognized one of them belonged to Lady Galvin, but I didn't know the other one. Something told me to hide, so I did," Keefe continued.
"And?"
"Well, they were talking about you."
"What? What were they saying?" Sophie started to panic.
"Well, I couldn't quite hear everything they were saying, but I heard your name a few times. From what I could make out, Lady Galvin was being forced to hand something over. I'm not sure what it was, but the guy was making threats. Then, I heard the guy tell Lady Galvin to meet him at the cemetery to make the exchange."
"Keefe! You seriously went to the cemetery after school to follow them? What were you thinking?"
"But this involves you, Sophie! I had to go there and try to figure out why they were talking about you. Trust me Foster, I knew what I was doing."
"But you could have gotten killed!"
"But I didn't. When I got there, no one was there at first. But then I saw this kid around our age. He was roaming around like he was waiting for something or someone. If he saw me, I probably would have gotten killed, so I ran into the woods to hide for a few hours. See, I was careful!"
Sophie tugged our an eyelash. "I'm still mad."
"Look, I'm sorry. I definitely should have told you. But, I didn't because I didn't want you to worry. Like I said, I knew what I was doing."
Sophie sighed. "Is there anything about this kid you saw that was recognizable?"
"He had a tattoo," Keefe said slowly.
"Was it a fire?" Sophie asked and Keefe nodded. "Okay, so this kid had something to do with Lady Galvin, but we still don't know how."
"See Foster, this is why we have to get in her house to search for information. If she truly had some connection with this organization, whether she was with them or not, the clues would be in her house. And we get in with these babies!" Keefe said, waving the keys in her face.
"Okay, but you still haven't explained how you got the keys."
"Well when I was hiding in the woods, after about a couple of hours, I heard sirens coming. I knew something bad must have happened and I knew I needed to get out of there because if they saw me, they would take me as a suspect. So, as I was leaving, I noticed a pair of keys on the ground and when I picked them up, I realized that they were Lady Galvin's since she was shaking them a lot when she was talking to that man earlier. I realized that they might come in handy, so I grabbed them and well, here I am!"
"Okay, that's a lot to process."
"It is, but it's also a lead! Now, that I know that you are definitely connected to this based on what you told me earlier, we can use the information we have to figure this out! I told you we would, Team Foster-Keefe for the win!" Keefe said, pumping a fist in the air.
