Chapter 67: Distant

Linh's P.O.V

"In a week, school starts back up again and the rest of the friends should be able to get back to school," a voice said.

Linh tried to open her eyes but she couldn't. She tried to sit up, but she couldn't move at all. It was a strange feeling.

Was she dreaming?

"Grady and Mr. Forkle should be good to go too. However, Dex and Edaline aren't looking so good. They may need to stay longer. Edaline is just wounded up pretty bad, but Dex's leg is hurting from the hypothermia. I'm afraid we might have to amputate it," the voice continued.

AMPUTATE?! What was going on?

"I'm afraid you are right, Doctor Trebert," another voice said.

"Let's just wait it out a few more days and give Dex's leg a chance, Doctor Perez," Doctor Trebert said.

So apparently the first doctor was Trebert and the second was Perez.

Why were there doctors? And why did this seem real?

"Yes," Doctor Perez agreed. There was then some shuffling. "Linh, however, we may not know when she will be released."

"Yes, comas are so unpredictable," Doctor Trebert agreed.

Wait...coma? LINH WAS IN A COMA?

"We will just have to continue the body circulation treatments until she wakes up," Doctor Perez said. "And we need guards for each of them since the Neverseen might take one of them. Just like they did to Edaline."

Wait...Neverseen? Edaline?

Then it clicked. Faint memories flooded Linh's mind of what she remembered during the exchange with the Neverseen. She could remember the explosion and the terrible pain when she slammed against the tree.

Were all of the friends injured because of the explosion? And Linh got a coma from the explosion?!

Linh has millions of questions filling her mind. What happened after she got knocked into the tree? Was everyone safe? What would happen next?

Linh tried to use all of her energy to wake up but she couldn't. She felt distant and lost. She felt unnatural. Like she was dead but could hear.

The feeling was terrible and Linh felt herself slipping away. Linh knew that people can lose themselves and forget so much when they are in a coma.

Would that happen to Linh?

How long would this last?

"Yes, guards will definitely be assigned," Doctor Trebert agreed. "Well, I must go to treat Dex and I believe you have to visit Tam next."
Linh then heard footsteps walking away and the door shutting.

Tam. Her twin.

Was he hurt? How would he react once he found out Linh was in a coma?

The worry and panic was hitting her hard and all she could do was let it drown her. She was helpless and couldn't do anything. She was vulnerable.

This could be her life for weeks or months or years. And there was nothing she could do and nothing the doctors could do.

Her energy would fade.

Her feeling would fade.

Her memories would fade.

Her soul would fade.
