So there's that, now onto the chapter!
"Alright, everyone ready?" Mr. Forkle breathed out, raising the key they found in the warehouse in the air. Everyone nodded.
Mr. Forkle has called a huge meeting that included: Sophie, Grady, Edaline, Nick, Stina, Timkin, Vika, Keefe, Cassius, Gisela, Biana, Fitz, Alden, Della, Dex, Kesler, Juline, Marella, Trix, Caprise, Wylie, Tam, and even the secret Blackswan members. Though the Blackswan members were covering their faces so no one could tell who they were. Let's just say that there were lots of people there.
They were gathered at Mr. Forkle's house because they were going to see if the key they found would work to open up the box Sophie had previously found at Galvin's house. Luckily, Mr. Forkle had made sure they never gave the real box to the Neverseen when they had that exchange in the woods.
Mr. Forkle then took a shaky breath and stole a glance at Sophie before he slowly lowered the key towards the box that was set in from of him.
Sophie bit her lip and held her breath as she watched. She could feel her heart pound as Nick held her hand tight.
Mr. Forkle then stuck the key inside the keyhole of the box. "It fits! This is the key to the box!" Mr. Forkle exclaimed.
"Then open it!" Everyone shouted.
"Okay, okay," Mr. Forkle said as he twisted the key and everyone heard a click. Mr. Forkle then pulled the key out and placed it next to the box. He then slowly reached forward and gripped the lid of the wooden box.
He made eye contact with everyone, Sophie for the longest, before he slowly started to lift the lid up.
Everyone seemed to be on edge as Mr. Forkle fully opened the box, but Mr. Forkle was the only one that could see what was inside.
Mr. Forkle then looked inside and blinked hard. He then stuck his hand in the box and started to feel, touch, and push around inside. He then lifted the box up and started to shake it.
"What's wrong?" Sophie asked.
Mr. Forkle's eyebrows furrowed. "There's...nothing in the box."
"WHAT?!" Everyone yelled—Sophie was probably the loudest.
"Give me that!" Grady said, walking over and yanking the box from Mr. Forkle's hands. Grady then started to shake it and slap it but nothing would happen. Grady then looked up and shook his head as he passed the box around so everyone could try.
Sophie then felt herself tearing up.
All the trouble they went through to get that box and it turned out that it had nothing in it.
Sophie then slammed her hand hard on the nearest table, causing everyone to jump. "I don't get it! Is this some kind of sick joke my parents made?" She shouted.
Edaline then walked over and placed a gentle hand on Sophie's shoulder. "Calm down Sophie, we'll figure out what's going on."
"But I don't get it! That box was supposed to have something important in it!" Sophie shouted.
"Believe me Miss Foster, I share your confusion and anger. I honestly expected the same thing but..."
Sophie shook her head and looked away.
