The Cullens all stand in a line as the Newborns follow the blood Bella left, waiting. Rosalie and Esme are on either end of their 'lineup'. Emmett is beside a side and then there is Alice and Jasper. Each one ready to fight off the newborns and protect Bella and their town.
Rayne is sitting in a tree above the clearing and she hears them. She has developed enhanced hearing over the past couple of days. She listens as the newborns get closer and when she looks down, she sees them clearly, even at the top of the tallest and steadiest tree Jasper could find.
Jasper's head bows down, ready as eager. As they get near, the Cullens run ahead and they begin fighting the newborns. The wolves jump over the holders to start the fight. When Victoria sees them, she feeds.
Rayne sees Jacob arriving. Jasper looks up and he nods right quick before he turns back to an oncoming newborn. Rayne stands on the branch and she begins singing My Immortal. Vampires are being thrown left on eighth ad the siren's song distracts them. Emmett smirks at Paul after helping him.
When all is done, Rayne is helped down and Alice goes into a vision. The vampires gather the bodies to burn them as Edward and Bella arrive.
"How long?" Edward asks as he walks up.
"A few minutes," Alice replies as the family faces him, Rayne included. "Maybe ten."
"The pack needs to leave," Carlisle instructs. "The Volturi won't honor a truce with the werewolves."
Jacob comes trotting out of the trees and stops by Leah. A stray newborn comes venturing out of the trees, getting attention of the two wolves. Leah snarls easily and she jumps at the newborn.
"Leah, no!" Rayne exclaims but jasper grabs her arm.
"He will hurt you," Jasper hisses as he holds her back.
Jacob runs at the new born and tackles him. But the newborn manages to get his arms wrapped around Jacob. Sam runs and he kills the vampire. Bella and Edward get to Edwards side. The pack phase and go to Jake as Rayne makes it over, waddling.
"Jacob, you idiot, i had it!" Leah scolds..
"Leah!' Sam Sam's in demand as he knees beside Jacob with Edward, Carlisle, and Bella.
"I have to retreat his bones before the exillerated healing kicks in," Carlisle explains. "It's already starting."
"We need to get him out of here," Edward demands. "We're not gonna win a fight with the Volturi."
"We'll take him back to Billy's," Sam says.
"I'll be there as soon as I can," Carlisle informs him. "Rayne, go on to the Rez with the pack. The Volturi don't need to see you, they already want you."
Rayne nods as the boys all go around to pick up Jacob, and Leah helps. Jared and Paul grab Jacob's shoulders.
"We got you," Paul says. "We got ya."
Rayne follows the pack through the trees toward Billy's. Rayne hadn't met Billy yet and she has been around the pack for months.
Billy tears up as soon as he sees the pack and Rayne opens the door for them.
"Put him in his room," Billy urges.
Sam nods and the pack goes inside.
"You're Billy?" Rayne asks. "Jacob and Rachel's father?"
"Yes, ma'am," Billy replies as he looks at Rayne. "You're Rayne Spears. The siren."
Rayne nods and she smiles.
"Could you hum something?" Billy asks. "To relax Jacob's mind?"
Rayne leans against the railing and she hums a soft tune to relax Jacob. Billy heads inside to call Sue Clearwater as the pack rejoin Rayne on the porch. No one pulls her out of her tune because Jacob isn't in too much pain. She just has to stop when Carlisle gets her to reset his bones.
Rayne is standing behind Billy as Carlisle arrives. Bella pulls up after a while and walks up as Leah paces in the Black's yard.
"Hey..."
Bella's cut off by a scream. Rayne touches Billy's shoulder. He grabs her hand and squeezes his eyes closed as he hears his boy in so much pain. It hurts him. Emily is on the other side of Billy, his other hand has hers. Billy is barely keeping it together.
"It been going on for a while," Quill says from the porch.
"Carlisle's rebreaking his bones," Rayne adds as her thumb rubs the back of Billy's hand.
Bella's face drops on horror as Jacob screams in pain. Rayne grimaces and billy squeezes her hand.
"Why'd he gave to butt in?" Leah grumbles as she paces in the yard. "I could've take that tick..."
"Oh, give it a rest, Leah," Paul demands with a scowl on his face. "Rayne, you okay?"
"I'll be okay as soon as Jacob is," Rayne says. "You guys are my family."
Billy sighs. "Why didn't you guys grunt her around sooner?"
Jared looks at his feet as Sam and Carlisle leave the house.
"The worst is over," Carlisle informs Billy. "He'lol be alright."n
Billy releases a heavy exhale as tears threaten to spill. Sam places a hand on Billy's shoulder as Emily snuggles into his side.
"I gave him some morphine, but his body temperature will burn it off soon," Carlisle explains. "I'll form back to set up a drip."
"Thank you," Billy says to the vampire.
"He's asking for you," Billy says to Bella. "And Rayne, Jacob wants you to hum something."
Rayne does and she begins humming, calming everyone down around her as Bella goes inside to see Jacob. Paul looks at Rayne, her eyes are closed and suddenly, she gasps and Carlisle stops at his car.
Water splashes at her feet, getting the wheels of Billy's wheelchair wet.
"Heh," she bites her lip. "My water just broke."
Paul's eyes widen. "What!?"
"I'll bring her to Forks hospital," Carlisle says.
The pack nods and Sam tells Rayne to call him. Rayne gets into Carlisle's Mercedes and he drives her to the hospital.
