"can I go explore?" Kaida shouted excitedly as soon as I put her back on the ground, I squinted at her energy level and nodded, making sure to take note of her chakra signature.
"be careful and don't break anything"
"I won't!" She shouted back, giggling as she ran around a corner. I turned back to fave Gaara who was staring at the place she once was before turning to me with a confused look on his face, I blinked, not really understanding what he was confused about.
"I just hope she doesn't get her hands on a kunai" I breathed worriedly, Gaara's head snapped towards me instantly.
"she knows how to use one?" I nodded.
"bullseye and all" I mused. I tilted my head in wonder as a boy dressed in all black with purple face paint on his face walked up behind Gaara and slung his arm over his shoulder, only then, did I recognise that it was Kankurou, Gaara's brother.
"I never thought I'd see the day where you'd be talking to a girl, Gaara. Man, Temari's gonna love hearing about this"

"don't try and give me excuses, I can see through all of them, she your girlfriend?" I blinked, confused. What was a girlfriend again? I think Mina-otou said something about it when I was younger but I could be mistaken, it's been so long since I've gone over the lessons he taught me.

"have you tried asking her out? though I will admit, she looks a bit out of your league little brother"
"Kankurou-" I looked at them once more, before noticing something I hadn't before.
"you both made Chunin" their heads turned towards me as I spoke, Kankurou stared at me for a second before his eyes widened and he let go of Gaara and pointed at me surprised.
"you were one of the proctors!" I nodded.
"wait.. aren't you missing?" he looked confused before shrugging his shoulders, saying he'd 'see us later' before he walked away the same way he came, Gaara released a sigh.
"idiot" I snorted at his words.
