The next day the four of us made our way back to the defense against the dark arts classroom excited for our first lesson with Mad-Eye Moody. I sat next to Hermione a two rows behind Harry and across from Ron. Moody marched into the classroom causing all of the chatter to go silent and everyone to watch in wait. "Alastor Moody." He introduced himself before writing his name on the small standing chalkboard behind him. "Ex Auror. Ministry malcontent. And your new defence against the dark arts teacher." He explained as he turned around facing all of us.
"I'm here because Dumbledore asked me, end of story, goodbye, the end." Moody's magical eye scanned the class before it landed on me. I tensed as it lingered on me for a few moments before he moved on. "Any questions?" No one raised their hands so he continued. "When it comes to the dark arts, I believe in a practical approach. But first, which of you can tell me how many unforgivable curses there are?" Hermione bravely answered his question. "Three sir." Moody turned back towards the board and started to write on it.
"And they are so named?" Hermione and I shared a nervous glance, where was he going with this? I thought. "Because they are unforgivable. Use of any one of them will..." Hermione trailed off quietly. "Will earn you a one way ticket to Azkaban. Correct." Moody turned around. "Now the ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do. I say different!" he threw the piece of chalk down on the desk in front of him. "You need to know what you're up against, you need to be prepared-" As Moody turned back towards the board he suddenly called out Seamus. "-You need to find somewhere else to put your chewing gum other than the underside of your desk Mr Finnigan!"
Seamus's eyes widened as everyone turned around looking towards him. "Aw no way, the old codger can see out the back of his head." Seamus muttered which seemed to anger Moody. Moody retaliated by spinning around and throwing his chalk towards Seamus in anger. "So, which curse shall we see first?" Moody questions and his eye lands on Ron. "WEASLEY!" Ron looked up at him in fear. "Yes..." Ron responded quietly with wide eyes. "Stand." Ron hesitantly stood up and refused to meet Moody's eye. "Give us a curse."
"Well, my dad did tell me about one...The imperious curse." Moody nodded. "Ahhh yes, your father would know all about that. Gave the ministry quite a bit of grief a few years ago. Perhaps
this will show you why." Moody turned around and walked back down the aisle, he popped open a large jar with a spider in it. He lets the spider crawl into his hand before he pulls out his wand. "Engorgio." The spider grew to a large size, I looked over at Ron and saw him already quivering in fear. "Imperio!" Moody cast the first of the three unforgivable curses on the spider and used his wand to send it around the class.
He first put it on Neville and Dean's desk since they were in the very front, Dean scooted back with a sound of displeasure. Moody moved the spider making it fly up and land on Goyle's head, Goyle whimpered as he held onto the side of his face in fear. "Don't worry. Completely harmless." Moody told the class where most were laughing, the spider suddenly landed on Parvati's wrist and climbed up her arm as she whimpered. The spider then hung over Ron's head. "But if she bites... she's lethal!" Ron whimpered and held onto the desk in fright.
